I generally like Tiesto, and I stand by my statement that he's introduced me to a ton of artists and tracks that I might not have otherwise discovered. But, to read this:
"Tiësto is a world DJing phenomenon like no other. He has revolutionized the common perception of a DJ’s role. His shelves groan under the weight of countless awards, he has been knighted by the queen of Holland, he has his own sneaker line and a wax statue in Madame Tussauds. It’s not surprising that he is titled as the most popular DJ on the planet."
I don't think there is anything wrong with being proud of your successes (and some of your failures, even) in life, but damn. |
I can understand people's dilemna at that paragraph. However. Reading the first sentence as one continuous line, instead of stopping at the word REVOLUTIONISED...
They are talking more about the way the average joe now perceives a DJ. The fact that these kind of gimps flock to Tiesto events to see "whats its about"... the list of achievements they rattle off are just some of the more pointless marketing tools in the Prime Time arsenal...
Proving that potentially, now, any DJ with popularity can make this kind of hmm how to say, sacrifices to their career, by setting up such links to things so bloody commercial its painful to watch.
That is kind of changing the perception of the DJ. As the role changes from simply playing records, or entertaining to being some kind of company behind the man, driving the marketing side of things.
Did other DJs do that before Tiesto? Have a whole line of management who pumped the public full of this stuff?
No.
Does that mean it revolutionised the process. Well it certainly did something to it didn't it.
Hopefully someone just read this post without thinking god, another fanboy comment again... i'm just as disheartened as everyone else at the Tiesto TM brand name going for every $ it can.
