In one definition yes it does. Anything that is popular becomes pop, whether hip-hop, rock, etc. It's just a general term and obviously doesn't differentiate. You don't have to argue this. I understand what you mean. We're talking about two different definitions of pop here.

Just like no one with a functioning brain would say Pink Floyd were pop rock band just because they've sold hundreds of millions of albums.

Maybe but just wait, in 15 years they'll be called "oldies" or "classic rock." Again just a general term.

It's questionable whether it should be classified as trance to begin with. But one thing that's certain is that it's not progressive trance. It is your (mis)use of the word "progressive" (in "progressive trance") i've adressed the whole time.

I'm not misusing the word progressive trance at all, especially when referring to Darude - Sandstorm. There's different definitions of progressive trance, trance, and dance music. But I'm not here to judge which one is most correct just because TA addicts have all come together with a consensus. It still doesn't make that definition default in reality.

We weren't discussing the drunks at your bar, were we?

No, you were referring to definitions approved by TA elitists. I was pointing out that not everyone is on TA and not everyone cares to be enlightened on your sub-branch strict definition.

And besides, i think there is an audience slightly more sophisticated than the drunks at the bar, which perhaps could be regarded as a better point of reference.

Sometimes when I listen to the sophisticated TA team ream my ass on what exact sub-genre each song is within their culture, I'd rather not care to label it but just agree with the oversimplification of the drunk, just call it trance, and enjoy it or hate it.

They are already called "oldies" and "classic rock" but those are not genres. People still acknowledge they were a progressive rock band.

I would lol if this was funny, but it's not.

I'm not obsessed with sub-genres, at all, but there are limits. You're like people that call all electronic music "techno".
