The mountains in Switzerland are AMAZING... this Grindelwald ski area was HUGE, we kept finding lift after lift after lift and different areas, so many secluded through the woods ways to go, and so few people, it was amazing.
Unfortunately, I've heard POWDER POWDER POWDER from so many people about Whistler and even Vermont this year, but here it wasn't that great, not enough snow this winter and hard trails, it's a layer of ice under a hard surface basically, plus the slopes were challenging for me.... but definitely worth the scenery, the most amazing views I've ever seen...

Aaaaand the last news is that unfortunately Alisa's illustrious Swiss boarding career is OVER for at least the next few weeks because I hurt something in my knee that day, haven't been to the doctor but I fear it's a sprained or partially torn ligament of some sort... luckily I don't think it's an ACL injury, it's not that bad. I can't bend my knee the whole way but it's getting a little better every day....
So I'm back to exploring Switzerland by car and foot... luckily there are so many other beautiful things here besides mountains for boarding. |
that's not unusual. The quality of snow in the US is generally better than in europe. everyone that's been to both says it. it snows more frequently, and out west - especially in utah, montana, and wyoming - the snow has a low water content (light fluffy powder). Europe might have the dramatic vistas, long runs, and numerous steep slopes, but the US has what matters, GREAT SNOW!!

Vail blows (i went today on a locals recommendation - probably to reduce the crowds on better slopes) - at least i had a foot of new pow to play in. I've been on steeper slopes back east, the ticket price was much steeper than the slopes: 92 dollars! breck is tomorrow.
