My impression is that Deadmau5 doesn't take any of this very seriously, so he likes poking fun at people who treat dance tracks or DJ sets as anything more than trivial doof-doof-doof music churned out to excite a crowd and then be forgotten within a few months.
I don't think he has a big ego. He just enjoys shitting on people who think of EDM as art or serious music rather than simple stupid fun. |
pretty much. i can't say as i particularly approve of what he's doing, but at the same time i can pull back to reality and see things from his point of view (which is if he's having fun and doing what he loves then why should he give a flying fuck what others think), and in truth find some of the criticism on here a little OTT and cringeworthy; i'd probably be laughing it off if i were him. i mean fair enough it was a weak effort for an EM but it's not like he's desecrated some form of holy ground
as for 'shitting on people who think of EDM as art of serious music'.. well, lets be honest, they're an easy crowd to target. trance-heads have gotten plenty of stick on here for finding too much 'serious' in their music, or claiming it touches their soul in some superficial kind of way.. really this is no different. music enthusiasts often come off as nerds, and nerds are fun to belittle.
the problem here is enthusiasts not being open to other people's perception of their passion. i mean i don't personally like it when people write off my favourite tunes as trashy when they hold personal meaning to me.. but i don't cry about it, as i accept different people look for different things in music. likewise, people shouldn't cry when someone like deadmau5 obviously doesn't take EDM all that seriously.

I agree, the Howells was the ultimate EM. Such a beautiful and well thought out mix.Still listen to it frequently.
