Seriously, any women reading this who consider themselves "into fine dining" - don't ever say that to the man you plan to marry, or any of his friends, relatives, or coworkers. Just trust me on this one.

And if you're a man and you consider yourself to be into fine dining, stop being such a fag.

i'm a chick and i know fuck all about fine dining...all u can eat sushi all the way for me...i was just using "fine dining" in relation to how people can take something that most of us never consider twice and turn into a passion...and examine it from all angles..as some people on TA do in relation to EDM...i also used wine as an example as well..everyone has their passion..for some it's the above mentioned..for most of us..it's EDM...

did u even read my whole post?

Indeed I did, and drew a very clear analogy in my response that you seem to have missed or ignored.

Here's the Cole's Notes version: Many people believe that exposure alone makes them an expert or connoisseur. It doesn't.

This city has a thriving Techno scene. I don't see whats to complain about!!! LOL

i could see it getting annoying if you don't like Techno though, but there will always be House in this city. Toronto is always going to be a house hot spot.

lol that was my almost -exact- option back in 04.

i liked techno tracks, just not techno sets (ie. techno for long continuous periods of time)

oh how far ive converted!

The techno crowd in T.O. is well catered to; but the issue currently is that the same DJ's are coming back over and over again (a la Liebing, Beyer, Carola). Not necessarily a bad thing, but not exactly nuturing the scene to have some variety - and thus limiting it from staying "fresh". It's not that techno DJ's are all playing the "minimal" sound, but most of the ones who've played sets in Toronto over the last 18-24 months spin similar styles.

The same thing happened to trance in Toronto (starting mid 2006 into 2007), and because of this now the top trance DJ's in the world don't illicit much excitement when they come to T.O. anymore. The promoters essentially chipped away at the base of mostly fickle fans. This could easily happen to techno.
============================

Mills, Clarke, Rachmad, Marco Bailey, DJ Murphy, and Jay Denham get my votes too for long overdue T.O. appearances. And send the scene back underground. When threads like this one start popping up, you know techno is getting to much daylight!!

In Toronto you're not going to get regular, solid attendance at underground parties with smaller promotion budgets for techno DJs that are not as well known or don't play a popular sound. It's a trade off - you want a big techno party, you're going to have to hear a name that's been here a few times because they draw a crowd. And if you want something underground with a "fresh" name, you're going to have to risk paying for a party that ends up being sparsely attended with little vibe.

And when was last time Toronto had a massive techno event... (05? When Tiesto was at Docks?)

Something with mix of familiar techno DJs with some who haven't been to Toronto would be sweet...

One can only dream

so true.

I couldn't care less about decadence and labour of love.

same thing alllllll the time.

I don't think there is too much techno in Toronto but I do agree that we need fresh talent here
