I've been mistaken for New Zealander a few times
Once by Canadians, I got my own back by (deliberately, I knew they were Canadian) asking where in the US they were from.
One in a taxi in the US, he just went straight for NZ, didn't even ask where I was from. i was too tired to care so I continued the charade (didn't change the accent, just didn't correct him, he didn't realise his mistake).
Then there's this story, gehzumteufel was there too.
In San Diego at the baseball a food seller chick was walking aorund, heard my accent and asked where I was from. "Australia".
her: "oh I've been told I can do a really good Australian accent. I love Australia, always wanted to go, thought I might be able to fit in"
me thinking 'shit, here we go ', saying "ok lets hear it then"
she busted out an english accent. ENGLISH!
I said that it was much much more English than Australian, she didn't believe me, she couldn't tell the difference.
oh and I'm a bit of a sucker for a lot of accents on a girl. Even weird ones like Scottish (only sometimes though, not always, someitmes it does work) and South African. Yeah, weird I know.
