Gotta say, overall I saw some of the shoddiest refereeing that i'd seen in a while in this tourney.
In baseball, iirc in the NL, pitchers have to bat, and in the AL, they don't. This is all fine and dandy, but note that during a game between a team from each, one set of rules applies, it isn't like each team plays by their own rules. Several times in this tournament I saw people like Lawson driving with their off hand held out as an extension of their body. Thats fine and is taken for granted, say in the ACC where Lawson plays. However, in a Big10 game that might be called as an offensive foul on the player keeping his arm out for pushing off, or a defensive foul on the defender for interfering with the ball handlers' body. Again, thats fine and dandy, and in their conference that would usually not be an issue. However, in several trans-conference games I saw in this tournament, it seemed like each team was being reffed by its conference's norms. Wasn't as much of an issue this game, but nonetheless MSU committed 5 fouls before UNC committed one, and they were both playing relatively equally. All game long Lawson would drive and jockey for position in the paint using his arms to increase his floor presence, but a few times on the other end Suton would use a similar move only to get called for a foul. All I ask is consistency, cause calling the game tight or loose is fine, but I really just didn't see much consistency :/
