Because I've got more books than I can possibly read now, I've been spending less and less time on the internet. If I had no internet for a year, I'd just have to write more letters/make phone calls, and I'd leave the life I've been living most of the time.

Oh, and I'd have to get porn somewhere else

Because I have the Internet, I read no books. Internet provides quicker entertainment and requires less effort.

What about PDF files and "cybraries", like Gutenberg.org?

As a matter or fact, I'm seriously thinking of printing some texts that I found in the public domain in a printing house a few minutes from my house. It looks like a real book from a proper publisher, and gives me plenty to jot down my thoughts as I read

Google Scholar is pretty awesome too - I just get headaches from reading on the screen for too long. Suppose I could print books at work though.

+1. This, and Google books

Weird, how much time do you spend in average on the computer? I've never had any problem reading on the screen, but then, I've been using computers for long periods of time since I was 8 or 9 years old.

I'm in front of a screen for about 6 hours a day at work probably, then usually an hour or two at home. I've stopped getting news from TV, so I take at least an hour every morning reading newspapers and blogs online now. So call it 8 hours a day in front of a screen, mostly reading text.

Weird... that's quite a lot -- and you still have headaches? On the bright side, you can always print the content you want, and in real life there's no such thing as tabbed browsing to help you procrastinate

Yeah, migraines run in the family though, so it's probably the light stimulus that triggers something after prolonged periods. But if I don't get up and away from my computer periodically throughout the day, I can start getting a mild headache. Not too severe, but annoying enough to deter me from reading for pleasure on the screen.
