I think I agree, it shines more when there's more modulation and variation going on, and also when the filter is more open IMO.

There is a VST out there called Alien 303 which is made to create those kinds of basslines, it sounds extremely good.
First sample is that one.

I think most synths can do it (+compression) theyll just have their own character

youre right about these samples though the moog is just too beefy to sound punchy lol

the moog just sounds out of sync really.
