Seriously??? You can defend the Westboro Baptist Church on loose enough terms, but... why? That's the kind of argument you're making here.

You're clearly misunderstanding the argument being made. What the hell does the Westboro Baptist Church have to do with the argument? Stay on topic please.

A Bank of America having rights to kick people off its "private property"? That's the furthest thing from being on-topic.

I don't have the time or the contract handy to go read my own Bank of America paperwork, but I can't imagine it NOT containing some sort of legal language allowing me to cancel my account if I want WHEN I want. You want to talk specifics, we'll get specific.

That's what people are referring to as "above the law." A bank that you've put money in cannot deny you under any circumstances the right to take your money out. For the record, I think the chick who made the video is as annoying as you think she is. But I don't care if someone walks in there with assless chaps, much less a protest sign. There's nothing legal or ethical about refusing someone to take their money out of a bank.

I dare them to commit this kind of stunt when I go in there this Saturday to take my money out.

Not really, since that is exactly what they did in the video.

We'll talk when you read the BoA paperwork.

For the record; I think that some of the things that BoA puts in their deposit account agreements are pretty "interesting" but the bottom line is, when you sign your name, you are agreeing to their terms. That's why you ALWAYS read the fine print. ALWAYS.

Edit: Also, see Regulation Q and D, which can be found on the Federal Reserve web site.

I found the following statement from BoA:
quote:
"It is our responsibility to ensure a safe environment for customers to conduct financial transactions. So, due to the disruptive nature of protests lately and the potential for safety or security issues, we do not allow protestors inside of our banking centers. If a customer who is participating in a protest wishes to conduct bank business, including close an account, we ask them to come back when they are not protesting or they may also conduct their bank business at a nearby branch away from protest activities."

Personally, I think that is fair. Had the woman gone in without making a scene, she would have walked out of there with a closed account. Since she chose to make her point a different way, unfortunately for her, she was walked out. At that point, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, call the branch, send a letter, or like this manager said, go to another location and close the account.

These two customers were trying to close their accounts in person and were not allowed to. It's not up to the bank to decide which of three methods I need to use to close an account, it's my choice. All other details are irrelevant.

And Eco was right on here: "There's nothing legal or ethical about refusing someone to take their money out of a bank."

My "obsession" with the paperwork is that if you sign your name to establish a relationship with them, the terms in the paperwork apply, whether you read it or not. This is similar to people who fail to read mortgage documents when they sign for them and then act surprised when the bank takes a certain action against them that was spelled out in those very documents that were signed.

It can't be stressed enough that "the paperwork" is legally binding and gives not only the customer but also the bank certain "rights." I'm probably not going out on a limb here by saying that you probably never read the deposit account agreement given to you by your bank when you opened your account. Is that correct?

LOL Bank of america is shit, no offense to anyone. i applied for my "FIRST" "BANK" credit card they gave me a credit limit of $15000, then upgraded it to $25000. and i am only 20 year's old at the time...

Why would they do this to an average 19 year old?

First chase credit card $5000 limit.

First Citi bank credit card $10000 limit.

I never really cared since i was "BORN RICH".

But now taking everything into consideration this shit does not add up.

first you lure an average joe, offer them insane credit line's and expect not to default.

Shove it up your's america. No offense to anyone. You all are living proof of how much i love you all =). NO HOMO.

It's called moral hazard. When you have a central bank pushing interest rates down to levels that a free market would never tolerate and a government creating laws and entities to prevent banks from either failing or having to own up from their mistakes, things like this will happen. It's a shame that kids got caught up in this hocus pocus.

So anyway, i had a meeting with the board... they literally made me go thru psych eval, prescribed me some medication, which my family really want's me to take looking at the state of things outside. I just see that as emotional blackmail by the media.

Because to me i am perfectly fine the way i am.

Not allowed to smoke marijuana anymore. I actually used to enjoy that before i started reading a book or listen to music. Cant do that anymore.

Suck's i can't do anything i actually enjoyed doing before.
