tutorials are really part of of producers promotional material. It is a way to get people to your site. No competent producer would want to monetize it or have it available for a select few.

I'm not sure you realize how simple it is to monetize a tutorial. You can both promote your website and monetize the videos at the same time.

You merely play the first 30 seconds of the tutorial, than a window pops up asking users to enter their email to unlock the rest of the video.

Its called content locking and I've already made money with it using samples on youtube. For samples I know it works really well as I've already made good money doing exactly this. For tutorials you just make the first 30 seconds super appealing, and although you definitely lose a small percent of viewers, most people will still enter their email if its targeted properly. I don't just post the videos and wait for traffic, I am indoctrinating viewers on other sites before they even come to the where the video is hosted.

Either way I'll just show you what I'm doing when I leave work. Getting out of here right now.

ps. this also works to qualify prospects too as the ones who choose not to see the video, aren't the type of people you want going to your site anyway. You only want the die hard music fans, and those are the ones who willingly submit their emails.

you are missing the point. The value of the tutorial is to get them to your site. Thats it. ONce they are there, and you've made them fans, they will go to your shows, buy your shit, tell other people about you. There is no value in doing what you suggest. Not enough people will pay.

Look at Ryan Enzed. HIs career is based off his tutorials. That is what put him on the map. They were popular, and they were free. Nobody is going to pay for a tutorial unless you are in the top 10 which in that case, a magazine would just pay you anyways and release it that way.

And, to be honest, that's what I had in mind for this soundset. The patch list will have names and contacts (emails, URL) for any of the guys who contributed that want to provide that info. I will host it on my site, and others will be free to host it on theirs. The reason I also want Access to host them, is because they obviously have the traffic to ensure a large number of downloads, whereas I don't. Do I expect to become famous off this? No, of course not. I've been designing sounds on synths for about 30 years now, and I finally plan to finish one or two other synth patch banks in the near future, so I see this as an opportunity to get my feet a little wet and get my name out there a bit. That's it. Besides, I have no interest in trying to sell a collaborative pack, with uneven numbers of patches from different contributors of different skill levels, and trying to figure out who gets what, etc. for the $15 that we might make trying to sell it on our own.

What percentage of people put their actual e-mail? Anyone can have any number of e-mail/disposable e-mail accounts...

throw it on beatport and charge 1$ per patch. Biggest seller since the TA collab. For 100 $ you get both the patches and the mix.

Update: Access will host it once it's done.

@Julz, studiobob, Sean Walsh, and ELlipse - I sent you guys the latest version of the bank and a .txt file a few days. Once I get your info, the bank should be good to go, although, it still needs a name and Swamper hasn't replied to me yet.

Still no reply from Sean Walsh. He hasn't been around for a while - hope he's OK. Also, I haven't gotten any replies from Swamper, so I suggest that we forget about using the TA name and just go with something generic, like "VIrus TI Trance-Dance Collective", or something and just mention in the readme file that we're all TA members. Other suggestions? I'm open to anything and just want to get this thing done.

I don't really see why you can't use the ta name as its not as if its going up for sale. Surely the 'trance addict collective virus ti soundbank' isn't going to cause any harm? Just a thought. Otherwise a generic name is fine though would stick to trance not dance.

Great patches on it anyway, good work!
