an me personaly i felt hes not the same since don zimmer left
i have a feeling he helped torre with alot of calls
as for a replacement deff go with gerardi he has experience and knows the team and is a go getter not one who will sit back and watch them lose
arod could be mvp next 10 seasons in a row but he dont do shit in playoffs so if he left he left if he stays then hes gona do good during season but once playoffs come dont expect him to come thru
mo i would keep he has atleast another 2 years in him
posada is a great catcher/good clutch hitter
but he runs like he has a safe strapped to his back and lacks speed thats what yankees need also these days |
torre needs to go because he doesn't know how to manage a game or a bullpen. he may be able to manage the media and his players, but that isn't as important. The only reason this smuck is going to the hall of fame is because he inherited derek jeter, mariano, posada, bernie, pettitte, and that great pitching staff from the late 90s. give him the athletics from the past 3 or 4 seasons and he would have run that team into the ground. i've been saying that for years and will say it until torre is gone.
since derek had an awful post season is anyone calling for his removal? DJ almost single handedly ruined game 3. lucky for him damon picked him up. also, his DP in game 4 wasn't very helpful. yankees fans have a real short memory when it doesn't come to jeter, mo, and the likes. AROD almost single handedly won game 4 of the ALDS against the twins in 2004 (BA was .421). Plus he had a hot 3 games against boston in the ALCS in 2004 until game 4 when the entire team shut down; he had a .429 BA prior to game 4. check out the headline.

Not signing Rodriguez would be a huge mistake on the part of Cashman. He's all for wasting money on the likes of Pavano, Giambi and Wright yet stalls when he has the opportunity to write off some smart pay checks.
As long as George is firing people, he might as well show Cashman the door too imo. |
not to mention his $28 million bomb on clemens. why would you spend that much on him and not on arod, especially considering texas is picking up more than a 1/4th of that. (i know im beating a dead horse, but that's important). although i like what cashman has been doing recently. you're right though, if arod isn't a yankee next year, cashman needs to go.

Also remember that if ARod opts out of his deal, the 21 million that texas is paying of the rest of ARod's contract goes away...so if he does that, I think Cashman is completely within his rights to just walk away from the table. Also, Clemens' 28 mil was pro-rated... I think the total came out to 17 or 18 mil that they actually gave him this year. |
No, cashman should NOT leave AROD the option to walk away. if it comes to the point cashman wasn't doing his job. Right now, if cashman isn't on the phone hammering out a contract with Boras, he isn't doing his job. That is priority number 1.
As for clemens, what does it matter if it was pro rated? He received 18.5 M, which comes out to a little over $1M a start. And that's not including the 7.5M that was tacked on because of the luxury tax.
Even if arod was paid $35M a year, that would be about 216K a start. A bargain compared to Clemens. But the real cost of a $35M contract to the yankees for the first 3 years is something around $27M. So effectively, the yankees wouldn't be paying more than ARods current contract, its just that the texas portion would be in addition. At 27M the yankees would be paying about 166K a game. A serious bargain compared to Clemens.
