Any thoughts on the Nuvifone and whether or not it will completely fail or if GPS has simply become completely commoditized via the iPhone, Blackberry and all the other smartphones? I think GRMN is a huge short over the long-haul. I just don't see how a company can sustain margins in an environment like that when their product is being marginalized. |
I am not too much in the know with JPM's derivatives book so I am not at liberty to comment. As for the Nuvifone. It may be a great product, but the market is so competitive, price-wise, commodity-wise, I wouldn't invest in it. It's in the trader's realm and I am an investor at heart.
But you'v highlighted a good point. GRMN's current high margins are unsustainable in such a cut-throat market. Everyone is making GPS navigators these days and for much less too. That'll ultimately cut into the margins. It's just a wait n see game.
