I generally agree for football, but I actually think the opposite is true for basketball.

Pro basketball players just seem notoriously lazy to me, they just don't play as hard as the college kids do.

Might well be true for football as well, but more often than not it seems like a lot of college games are just one notch about watching a high school football game - which, in my experience, is about as fun as watching peewee hockey.

the overtime system for college football makes the game really damn exciting (each team gets the ball at the 25 and tries to score)
