Im probably way off

"Don't Give Up" has a general message I think, it could apply to a lot of situations when you feel the going gets tough. Seeing as how Nick Bracegirdle has had to weather his share of criticism (for working with Brian Adams, nonetheless!) it's reasonable to believe it has some personal, motivational message for him too.

I forgot about Saltwater. Mark that one in for me too, I love how the vocals are used in that, very lush...

Eh... let's focus on the positive! Now then,

Orbital - Halcyon + On + On
Orbital - Nothing Left
Orbital - Sad But True (although the drums are kind of industrial and abrasive)

since Maire Brennan sings on "Saltwater", it'd make sense to check her solo stuff out... and the music she's done with Clannad. And since she is Enya's sister, you might wanna check out Enya too... ! But you probably have ALREADY

There are other "chill house" tracks in the "ibizan" vein that would have a similar feel, and a lot of new age music (i.e. Vangelis - Voices, Enya obviously, Dead Can Dance) has these sort of ethereal vocals where it's hard to make out the words and they're smeared to sound HUGE and heavily reverbed at times . .. if you're on an ethnic tip check out some Deep Forest tracks like "Marta's Song" (altho the vocals in this are fairly sharp).

but dancefloor music with this sort of feel is comparatively rare because the juxtaposition can be trickier than it sounds.

Hope this helps!

yes it did!!!!!

unbelievable a few weeks ago I borrowed a few CDs of a friend 2 were david gray the other was "Clannad".

I looked at the back of that clannad CD and saw a bunch of 70's hairstyles so I said "eww" and just passed it onto my Mum. Turns out you have just revealed some new facts to me

so... she must have been even older when doing the vocals for saltwater then....?

Haha.. yeah time sure does fly, doesn't it ?

Brennan actually re-recorded her vocals especially for Chicane on "Saltwater", as you may know they previously came from the soundtrack to "Harry's Game", specifically the THEME.

ALL-TIME FAVE? apart from myself? j/k j/k j/k . . . seriously tho, WHOAAA big question... okay, this may change in the future, but if I had to name a pair off the top of my head, it'd be:

-Brian Wayne Transeau aka BT
-Richard Melville Hall aka Moby

Their musical philosophies have overlap but they have radically different approaches to making music. Additionally, they've had long-term careers, more than a couple of great artist albums (which are comparatively rare in EDM to begin with) -- plus film score and other projects on the side... they are producers foremost but have dabbled in DJing... they both seem to be good people full of positivity (admittedly they have their pet peeves, but that's so very human) and they live really inspiring lives.

They also have a lot of contradictions but that is also very human and I can relate. As for their actual music, BT has shown me the beauty of simple complexity (i.e. the vocal edits in "Somnambulist"), while Moby has shown me the beauty of complex simplicity (i.e. the deep warmth of "Everloving"). Both of them have crafted top pop tunes on a base of technology and have been featured in the "underground" and "mainstream" spotlights... they have both explored diverse sonic arenas and a relentless willingness to explore (Moby perhaps not so much as of late -- irony? -- but I anticipate his next album)... they are both great to make caricatures of (Moby's self-portraits, BT's "South Park" persona, and ANOTHER thing they share is being standout personalities who are frequently parodied -- I know I've seen more than my fair share here over there years -- but they keep on keeping on with their persistence of vision and don't give up . . . . and so on and so on!! I believe they are allies too, BT spoke very highly of Moby in an interview for instance. BT now has a baby daughter and when Moby gets married, *that's* when you know Ragnarok is coming, LOL!

I find it hard to make a shortlist past that because it's sooo hard. I've named a lot of what I liked in past posts. Also, the reasoning behind my preferences I've explained in oblique ways in the past, but generally, I admire unique artists with long-term careers, good artist albums (which are comparatively rare), and even better, who are NICE HUMAN BEINGS.

outside of electronic dance music, some of my all-time faves up to now are:

Avril Lavigne
Lillix
Britney Spears
J.S. Bach
Yanni
John Denver

Yeah I know that list generates weird reactions, if I hear "BOTH Avril and Britney!?! WTF?!?" again I'm going to smile bigtime and get out my Redundant stamp. Hey, I just like what I like . . . namedropping isn't my thing but when I am genuinely excited about an artist, I totally freak out like a female teenage Beatles fan circa 1960s (including the whole crying, screaming hysterically, waving a sign bits)

I like a lot of stuff though, emphasis on the "lot". And the "stuff".

How about yours?
