I've got a Rank 1 remix, not sure if it is the same one from the set. It;s 8:12 in length.

If you want me to stick up a sample for you to check if its right, then let me know.

- A.

Somebody answer this: Paul van Dyk is German, so in German his last name would pronounced "dik", right? NOT like in English "dike".

So why the hell does everyone call him "dyke"? or "dijk" in Dutch??

Let's call people how they're called in their country!

well i guess his opinion on file sharing is valid, but for me, the reason i get mp3s is to see waht i like, so i can buy the records, but some people just dont buy the records, and i bet if they released everything on cd single too, it would make it a lot more accessable to more people, because before i had turntables, i would just download to listen, not to think about buying
so get a cheap record player, and buy the vinyls that you like
or just delete your mp3s if you arent gonna get it

Can someone please help me understand. He uses a pop star for his analogy. They would sell what... 5 million records and would loose 50000 because of piracy. Fair enough.. "big deal" he says. But if he were to sell 100000 of his own records and lost 50000 because of piracy, it is a big deal. WTF? Why does he assume piracy would affect 1% of sales of a pop artist and 50% of his sales? I am sorry but his logic makes no sense. Piracy affects Paul the same way it does Britney or Christina.
Has he ever thought about why he has become so popular? Why is it when he goes to a venue he'll atract anywhere from 5000 to 50000 screaming fans playing UNDERGROUND music? All know his name and all know what he plays? The internet has played a HUGE role in his and most dj's popularity. The more people who know him the more who will pay a premium to see him and therefore the clubs can afford to pay him 10000 plus a set. The internet has definitely helped his carreer. He's a great dj but lousy at math

five million = 5,000,000
one hundred thousand = 100,000
fifty thousand = 50,000

if madonna would lose 50k from 5mil she still has... 4,950,000

if pvd would lose 50k from 100k he ONLY has...50,000

madonna sold 4.9 million more than he did still.

now times 4.9mil by let's say 5 dollars that the record company makes from each cd.

OMG you fucking idiots. It doesn't work that way. Like I said, Piracy would affect every artist at about the same proportional rate. NOT 50% for PVD and 1% for everybody else. YOU CAN'T ASSUME PIRACY WOULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF 50K CDs EVERY TIME!!! Did either of you even read what I said? Man I can't understand how people would be this fucking stupid.

dude the point is.

he doesn't sell as many cds as madonna does. so if she looses some here and there fine.

but if he looses a few cds here and there it's not fine, it could drastically drop the number of cds sold.

discojoe, its more you that isn't understanding what PvD said.
The point is that for Madonna to lose 50 000 CD sales is not a massive cut off her total sales, but for PvD, a lose of 50 000 CDs is a helluva lot.

Also, as he said, "electronic" artists are particularly suffering from the whole piracy issue.

HappyHappy hey why not!

I was just sittting here and I figured, hey why the hell not, I think I deserve to be in this thread too. Honestly tho, why the hell is this thread so long? I can tell you why! Cuz PVD is a big time respectable artist and we love to hear shit about him, whether it be artistically or personally.

I'm not quite sure when this thread got into the mp3 and file sharing debate, but here are my two cents. Music should be for free. I have so much respect for artists who just give away their music. haha It's rare I know. I wonder if one could make a living just off of touring? Now theres a concept?! I know I will most likely be flammed, and I also agree that artists deserve every penny. I just think it's a pretty stupid comment to make if you are the artist, I mean at least pretend that your doing it for the music. haha

PVD is a smart man, and one of my fav dj's, no doubt. I want to give mad respect to all the dj's who put up with the countless amounts of bullshit out there.

Jon

Where's the Second Sun track? I'm dying to hear it. BTW I think it's Pol Van Deek, or at least that's what my German friend says.

halo20, i saw this one thing on VH1 where they said the majority of famous artists usually make their money from the actual tours and the record labels make the money off the CD's. so you were on the right track when you said: "I wonder if one could make a living just off of touring?" and since that is the case usualy when you pirate music you're ripping off the record company more than the artist. but then agian sometimes supporting a label such as vandit is a good thing.
