I don't think 'the gays' necessarily like trance more than you or anybody else, but because certain gay orientated trance DJ's have such influence in the Sydney dance scene (as far as I know) they are able to fill a venue easily, by marketing, word of mouth (etc) and screw the masses and play whatever the hell they want. Gay parties are all about dance, & you get certain DJ’s that play trance at them, and yer, i guess it seems then that gay people seem to like trance more than the very broad straight dance scene that has to cater for so many different tastes.
Take Ruby for example (rubydance.com.au )he is always good for trance, but only does play at gay venues and it is understandable that most trance addicts wouldn't want to go to a gay venue, which is fair enough!
I went to the Ruby party last night in a last minute decision and was totally blown away by the quality of trance he was playing. Everything from uplifting, vocal and hardcore towards the end, enhanced by about 4 or 5 Oracle lasers spinning throughout the night, crystal clear sound and amazing lighting n effects. And no one even tried to grab my arse, just picked a quiet spot on the floor and danced for friggin hours.
But yeh other than going to that, Sydney does indeed suck for trance. Move to Toronto, I am.
