The most disappointing thing is the way Australian society is changing. We used to be a caring society that looked after each other, 'mateship', 'fair go' and all that. Now we are turning into a 'me first' American style society.

Pretty much sums it up.

This is why i think the Liberals won the election:

* Inexperience of Mark Latham as a leader - he will make a great PM one day, but many people didn't trust him enough to vote for him.

* The Liberal's 'scare campaign' over interest rates and the economy.

* People thinking with their wallet.

* Christian Democrats Party Preferences

* Stupidity of the Population (just kidding! well...not really.. )

P.S. Never get a job counting votes for the election! It sucks!!!

P.P.S.Edit. There were 1 million people marching against the War in Iraq in Sydney, and yet NSW remains as Howard's stronghold after this election. How the fuck does that work? Don't people care about social issues at all?

This is stupid because the ALP got the Greens preferences, and there were a truckload more of those. Without them, Labor would have absolutely bombed out more than what they did.

I don;t understand why anyone would vote Greens in the House of Reps A vote for the Greens there is a vote for Labor. Kinda defeats the purpose of voting for someone other than Lib and ALP doesn't it?
ALthough a vote for anyone but Liberal is a good vote in the Senate. I voted Howard in HOR, but I'm quite disturbed at the Senate situation Not too good at all.

the quicker people get it thru the head... this election had nothing to do with the WAR...it was about local issues and local policies... in which labor had NONE.

Thats where you are wrong Paulie, labor had local policies.

Everyone just realised they were shit, socially divisive, wouldn't work and cost WAY too much (Medicare Gold = blowout waiting to happen).

HAHAH yeh, what you wrote up there were their policies but instead of embarassing labor boys on this forum i prefered to write they had none.

Watta pos that medicare gold was... must of been one of his drunken ideas, or wait was that all of them. What seriously screwed them was their socially divisive education policies. No one needs that, then we got guys telling us australia doesnt care anymore pfft... do some research boys.

You can preference who you want in the Lower House so really there is no reason NOT to vote Green if you agree with their policies. I put Green 1 and Labor 2, knew my preference would go to Labor but wanted to show my support for the Greens too. There are people who vote Green 1 and Liberal 2 as well.

I dont even really want the Greens to be in power but the fact that you know they arent going to win makes it all the more reason to vote for them as a protest vote, knowing that you are still going to be making a choice between the coalition and labor.

how is not wasting tax payer money on rich schools that dont need it socially divisive? I went to one of those schools and it shits me that our hard earned cash is going into the coffers of those schools who have millions and millions.

Latham had some good policies and some bad ones but really it didnt matter. Only thing that mattered was people went for the safe option, they care the most about the economy and interest rates and they believed the Liberals dishonest campaign on that issue.
