as for your first point, you're forgetting i've read this forum long before i've joined.
and what i said about control is very far from what you interpreted from it. the form of conrol you do have as a member on a forum is adding content, that's basically all of it, and it's a lot.
you (general you, not ian specifically) just have to accept the fact that the forum is what it is, reminiscing won't bring the old ways back, and frankly, nothing will.
you can only drive things forward, which translates into a few options:
1. stay and contribute worthless criticisms, AKA bitch (nearly no effect)
2. stay and contribute content on the same level that exists, actively supporting the current state of the forum to remain as it is
3. stay and contribute better content, effectively steering the forum in the direction you want to
or alternatively... you can leave.
