Cool thread. I agree with one of the earlier posts. The supersaw sound really is a defining sound of the genre. Just like the electric guitar with its distortion sound defines hard rock and heavy metal and made it's way into many other genres like Punk and Nu Metal and on and on. Just as electric guitarists are always seeking to find that perfect distortion sound from their amps/pickups and guitars so are we trying to get the best sounding supersaw. If you are a trance artist it's only natural to love and use a supersaw in your tracks. Now i'm off to play with my synth and see what i can come up with! Half the fun is experimenting you know!

it's quite nice, a bit to wet for my own taste but def. usefull
Can imagine it would work very well for harder leadsounds.

what I think it do lack is the bottom end, listen to my sample that I posted in the beginning of this topic, crank up the low-end more to make it sound more full and you'll have a really nice sound

It's not the best supersaw I've heard, but it's not bad at all for the 3xOSC. In fact, the plastic-digital timbre of that synth has added an interesting character that could convievably be used for euro, or hard trance.

I say go for it, man. You've got a workable sound, now I see you'll probably be creating elements that fit around it.

I love the melody at 2:30 ish. Good epic-trance usage of the patch.

Low end isn't that much of an issue with the later melody samples, really.

thanks... but i thought it would fit in cheezy trance. any idea on how i could make it cheezier? obviously it sounded hard if i'm not wrong, the reason for the "hard" sound is due to 2 layers of flangers i had for the mixer. if i remove em, it would sound abit weak and un-detuned. i'd really like to work on this patch but it's not what i hoped it would turn out to be... cheezy supersaw.

It's not inconcievable for it to be used in "cheesy trance" (whatever that means ). If you are referring to epic trance, it's like I said: "I love the melody at 2:30 ish. Good epic-trance usage of the patch."

I would almost recommend against using the 3xOSC for a supersaw patch. No matter how much signal processing, it's difficult to get rid of that unwanted, plastic-digital timbre. I am almost inclined to fault your tools. There are plenty of better VSTs out there that can achieve something better in a quicker fashion.

Good ol' mega/super saw sound. I really enjoy this sound, and the rock guitar analgy is very acurate. My friends that like house music hate the super saw sound. It's probably cause the super saw has been used to make cheesy stuff and now it can't be thought seriusly ever. I think once you start dislike the super saw, you'll never like it again.

You just gotta layer saw sounds together and detune the just a bit. You can also take two super saws, detune them just a hair and pan them off eachother to get a great stereo sound. Reverb and delay are always need for super saws.

Damn you send it is not working for me right now, sorry I couldn't post a sample. But it's all about the saws and detuneing, really it is.

I just uploaded a supersaw_test sound on my BANDPAGE .

I will confess, however, the MIDI is not trance, but sort of a soundtrack piece (almost an accident, I was just fooling around). Sounds a little like old-school ambience. Sounds a tiny bit like Jarre/Vangelis, don't you think?

You're right. I programmed a very decent one a few nights ago in maybe 30mins of tweaking. Getting the ENV that controls the filter took a bit longer to tweak to get the right pluck sound, but the basic fat supersaw sound was very easy to acheive quickly. But a lot of the credit goes to my Z3ta+ synth. I just threw on 2 basic saw wave OSCilators with multi ON(makes each osc 8) then raised the detune slider on each and WHAM! instant supersaw sound. Then i tried a 'chorus' effect but found it was overkill(it muddied the sound) and my dry sound was already huge enough. Put a delay on and then set it back a little ways in the reverb and it sounds fantastic.

I think what i love so much about this sound is how it can start as an percussive pluck sound with the filter almost closed and open to a loud full lead sound. A very ingenious sound indeed. Makes it so usefull also for not only leads but also basslines.

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.
