Alot of great tracks mentioned above. I dont think anyone has mentioned Seven Cities by Solar Stone.

Paul Van Dyk - Words
I feel it truly gets you into a state of "trance" as opposed to the rest.

Man, you guys have BRILLIANT taste in music! Can't fault anyone's choices. You gotta love the trance communtity! Anyway, it's a tough choice, but I gotta go with "Luvstruck" by Southside Spinners. Other worthy mentions include, PVD's "For An Angel", Tiesto's storming mix of Delerium's "Silence", Gouryella's mix of Binary Finary's "1998". I could go on & on, "Love Stimulation", "10 in 01", "Flesh", "Tenshi"
HELP, I can't stop!!!

For me, personally, when I heard ATB's 9pm Till I come, which in comparison to what I listen to now, is not very good. I realized that there is some seriously good shit out there that I had not even heard. Then I heard some George Acosta mixes and was a 'tranceaddict' right away.

Lots of good picks in this thread.

When I think of tracks that define trance, for me, two pop in my mind immediately.

Max Graham - Airtight
The Green Martian - Industry

Personally i would find it hard to use one track alone to define trance music or to clame the biggest influence. A few classics that get a mention IMO

Delerium - Silence / Veracocha - Carte Blanche / Solarstone - Seven Cities / System F - Cry / PVD - For An Angel.

All good examples of big influences and they do define Uplifting Trance.

But a special mention has to go to ........

........Sasha - Xpander

the production for its time ....... unmatched imo
