Ah the old Trance = Techno, people never seem to be able to avoid that one when they don't know the music or can't appreciate it. Its like calling R&B and Hip Hop the same thing, not even close to it but that's just another aspect of who we are as human beings, we all in our own way tend to label things, whether consciously or subconscious. I got so tired of trying to explain the difference to my black friends that when they ask me what I listen to I just say EDM and leave it at that, subgenres be damned. For me it is the love of the music and atmosphere, I love the sense of freedom and letting go of your emotions in a packed club and the hot chicks don't hurt either.

how this thread get so out of control...its why do white people dominate trance, not WHY DO ONLY WHITES LISTEN TO TRANCE.... some people on here are either blind or just plain stupid. I donno how many messages i've seen saying "what are you talking about?? im black i listen to trance!!" Thanks, we already kno theres a lot of you, a lot of asians, browns, whatever. The descussion is why is it dominated by whites, so all you non whites, stop trying to make it look like a racist thread because u want to feel unique that u listen to trance and not rap or whatever. I'm very pround that you are all individuals, but get back to the thread topic...

ofcourse you can't get in since you're black just kidding. Yeah, I don't understand why it's so hard to say electronic music or something along those lines instead of the old trance/house/ambient/etc= techno ploy.

I think the point of the individuals who are referencing themselves must have been profoundly missed by you, It is pretty evident that the music is followed mainly by whites, so that beckons the question about the thread and its relevance. Why does it matter who listens to what music or produces it or spins it, and for these question I am yet to see one answer for. So I pointed myself out because individually it is something that appeals to my style, it has nothing to do with being black, white, brown or whatever the hell else label is slapped on another person. We may not live in Shangrila and a Utopian world but I'll be damned if people stereotype me incorrectly in life. The only person who knows the original reason for this thread is the thread starter not me or you.

Ironically you call others blind or stupid yet you fail to answer the original thread title as well, so please tell me why Trance is dominated by White people, I can't wait for that answer.

^^Maybe read the thread next time...

Beyond that, however, not much distinction can be made without getting into some sticky arguments, but so far, that's what's evident.

As always, there are exceptions.

I don't see where I ever stated that being black and enjoying trance makes me special so you might want to stop using that as some kind of crutch in every statement you have made recently. You seem almost offended by those who mention being an individual, and it is that style which brought them to the music, not whether they were black or white or anything else, okay mate. If you call discussing the actual topic mentioning that Asians you know in TO get into the EDM scene at the Guv for the drugs then okay, whatever you say. I have argued this issue to death with you and will let you get the last word mate.

I will now do myself the favor of answering this, Trance is dominated by whites because the genre of music that developed and became Trance did so in many parts of Europe where the population was and remains white. Trance never had a root in the black communities because other forms of music had already appeared around that time that appealed to young people. Young whites in Europe followed Trance as it was developing and evolving in Amsterdam, Eastern Germany, parts of England and into Eastern Europe, Young blacks followed rap as that was developing in the inner cities of America around the same time period. We therefore see what we do today. Also don't forget the record labels like BMG, Sony that market the music, they obviously have target audiences they market to including when Trance began to come into the mainstream in Europe.

I'm pretty sure as well that anyone who listens to trance had an evolution in what they listened to in EDM, I started with Techno, then Ambient, DnB, House, Chillout, Trance (Progressive).

My two cents......
Dance music on disk started with disco which begat funk which begat house....all black dominated because of the FUNK in the beat. The off-beat. The one. See James Brown.
As electronics made sampling and looping easier so the nerdy white guys (Krafwerk) took the sound to new levels, good and bad.
I believe the most interesting sounds today are made by those who still feel the funk. Desyn and Sander for two.
The Vangelis/Yanni/Oldfields make soppy muzak for strictly white people.
Long live the funk.
