What's wrong with 1015??? |
Don't think there's anything wrong with Ten15 in most peeps eyes these days, but more of that PvD usually makes the place way too packed. Uncomfortable packed. Mainly because more people want to be in the main room than can fit.
Other venues at least try to do crowd control. IE. Tiesto @ Ruby Skye. It sold out, yet it was never absolutely crushing. You could find a place to stand, dance, etc w/o too much trouble and still be in the same room.
Although, this is a real tough situation for Ten15. Ruby Skye is pretty much one room so capacitiy is pretty much based on it. Ten15's capacity is based off 4 rooms (main room, front room, new downstairs area, upstairs) and the VIP mezzanine area. So they can sell to that capacity. Problem is, on nights when it gets to that capacity people are usually there for the main DJ and don't want to be in the front room, upstairs, etc...so everyone crams the main room, thus making for a less than stellar experience unless you are drunk off your ass or something. Sure, Ten15 can route the main room sound to other rooms but that just makes the experience even worse. Might as well be home listening to it on the radio at that point.
That's all. Ten15 has done a lot to solve the venue issues, but it still has a way to go. There's some things that it really can't control and you can't blame them for (remember, while it's partying it's also business). Ten15 will always be like a second home to me, even though I don't go to it nearly as much as I used to (I used to go to it TOO MUCH, lol). Hell, I don't go out nearly as much in general (down from 5-6 nights a week to a few times a month. Gots a baby and fiance to worry about! )
Anyhow, Ten15 is trying A LOT of new things, especially on Friday nights -- the night of the clubbing weekend that's frickin' impossible to get people to go out on in San Francisco. On Saturday nights, I think Taj has done an excellent job with the resources he has. I know it must be tough. You can only do the best you can and hope that everything works out.
