In fact I am inclined to say that it is an integral part of music. 80's rock suffered the same fate, people get into a cool sound and start making their own music. The market gets saturated with so many people that nothing sounds unique, the originators can't even keep up, and you have a dead scene. thats the way music goes IMO. |

Yep, that's the way it happens you are right, BUT, FFS, LOL, EDM DOES NOT NEED A F*CKING "GRUNGE ROCK" REVOLUTION BECAUSE, "grunge-rock", despite the fact that it REALLY SUCKED, despite the fact that it was the most anti-artistic think that was ever made, despite the fact that it was attented by masses of 16 year old junkees and it was generally the worst rock genre that EVER existed (well, probably worst than today's "new metal", i don't know they are both terribly bad)it killed and over-shadowed the very beautifull and artistic sound of "shoe-gazer/dream-pop".
"shoe-gazer" was a kind of very dreamy and ethereal "Alternative rock" with the bands using lots of reverb creating the "wall of sound" effect that was characteristic of the current genre. The last result was a type of very dynamic emotional ambience. Key-bands were Slowdive, Lush , My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Galaxie 500 and others. Why i'm saying all these? Because i can see clearly a parallel pattern on what is happening now on EDM and dance scene(unfortunately in a greater scale now). You get a quality sound which gets more exposure and at the same time is slightly more artistic than anything else and suddenly there are a bunch of idiots that due to the fact that they have a specific "image" (even that of the junkee with the black eyes, or of the todays "electroesque" EDM producers who are dressed like 80s pimps)and they are generally different and they are more wild and they have more "rowness" in their songs/productions, but, nevertheless, their music is deadly simplistic and SUCKS BIG TIME (swedish house trash or what ever) they suddenly become the center of the world. Why?Well, because their sound is deadly simple so you get lot's of people(lambs) "liking" them and at the same time they are praised by the media/tv/magazines as the "new revolution" and there you have it(even if you think that what you hear is not "aesthetic" at all you end up liking it.After all is "very cool".) You get lots of fans supporting the trash and at the samne time perceived by all as "cool" by doing that (by following the "cool garbage").
So, on the "EDM grung revolution" i think it allready (and unfortunately) happened with all this "Cool retro-futuristic rowness" that came after electro-clash(trash?) and all this electro revolution...you get all this type of garbage, electro-house,electro-pop,punk-funk,glitch-minimal techno, click-house, clit-house whatever! On the other side there were some genres that trully had the potential. Yes lots of progressive house had it (listen Digweeds MM2), Progpsy maybe, even the mainstream uplifting trance could evolve into a more layered and MORE melodic type of genre BUT it is easier to sell "Simple cool" music with an "image" that will be loved by much more people, rather than more "Artistic music" that will be loved by few. Unfortunately, in EDM scene where "money" is the most important factor, things like that happen all the time, even in down at the "Single tune/12''" level...e.g. in uplifting trance.. solid's globe latest melodic efforts in comparison to filo and peri's massive generic 3-note tune with the female cheesy vocals on top.EDM was very cool in the 90s but not in the 00s and after that where use amounts of money started to get involved. What EDM wants now is not another poppy money-driven revolution but rather a deeper musical evolution.
