Ground troops can't destroy a missle launcher several seconds\minutes after it's taken out of its hiding and starts firing rockets on cities in north of israel.

It's also insulting to the 1000+ Lebanese who were killed by Israel. Ground troops can effectively take out militants while keeping civilian casualties to a minimun. Dropping bombs on cities simply do not. Most of the reports I read suggested the targetted areas had been used to fire rockets from. Which means the militants were probably long gone.

It was the wrong tactic. Wrong for the Lebanese and wrong for the long term security of Israel. Israel has ensured that support for Hizballah has been increased (detrimental to Israeli security) and has ensured most non-Shia Lebanese will view Israel as an enemy and support Hizballah's attempts to "protect" them (as many of them did anyway) (again, detrimental to Israeli security)

Imo, Olmert simply wanted to show his voters he wasn't "soft" and took the easy option of some short term gains at the expense of long term security and whether he even achieved those short term aims is debatable...
