Yeah most of the customer reviews & CNET etc say the low-end Panasonics (which can do 1080i too I think) are all you need, but probably most of those reviewers didn't actually have a Blue-Ray player so it left me wondering.

i watch satellite hd a lot more than i watch bluray. satellite is free. bluray movies are not. dishnetwork only broadcasts up to 1080i too.

We have a couple of places that rent all videos (including Blu-Ray for the latest ones) for 88 cents on Wednesdays.

which FTA are you using for that? reliable? I'd need another bird, considering I am only pointing at 110 and 119..unless they have moved some HD channels onto there.

there are a few HD channels on 110 but its not worth investing all the money in a HD STB for just those. i have a dish pointed at 61.5 just for HD channels.
here is a good list of channels on 61.5 http://ekb.dbstalk.com/61-5list.htm

i have the sonicview 8000hd with all-in-one 8psk board.

720p is better then 1080i. I wouldnt Use 1080i at all. My LCD does all and I use either 720p or 1080p and its kinda hard to tell the difference since its only 32inch, but if i use 1080i then it is not great.

My parents tv is a plasma that has only 1080i and it is not great for ps3 or bluray.

if you want to pick up all dishnetwork's regular programming as well as hd content....
sonicview 8k = $400
a-1 8psk board = $200
dishes = $100

if you want to get expressvu then it will be cheaper but their hd quality sucks compared to dishnet...

1080p >720p>1080i

Based on my viewing experience, and on the reading that I have done. I dont feel like getting into the difference between interlaced and progressive scan and scaling. Im sure you can use google.

stuff like this has always been a matter of personal opinion.
there are plenty of articles about 1080p vs 1080i with varying results so the only way to decide is to see for yourself.
