ow well.. in short then. Being voted number one DJ is not purely based on DJ skills as everyone knows. It includes selling your name as a brand, including productions, albums, dj gigs, big parties, a record label etc etc etc.... One of the essential parts of staying in that position is getting your name out to the big audience, by for example releasing commercial albums.
Well, there is the relation of being number 1 DJ and producing albums, wasnt so hard was it?

He could well be the worlds number-1 dj and come with an awesome trance album full of innovation, groundbreaking sounds and new more coplex and honest melodies.During the 70s Pink Floyd used to make massive gigs in the pyramids with lasers and stuff, and always had this forward-thinking art-rock space sound without the need to sell-over in order to sustain their big name.
Yes, you can be a big name and you can choose on how to sustain/promote your "bigness". You could either be No.1-name by choosing the "Hard way", which is pushing boundaries and creating something trully beautiful and artistic (and hence you have a higher chance for history to mention your name) or you could either choose the "Easy way" by giving the masses what they want, pleasing them with your "one-trick" methods over and over again. Yes, its not hard where Armin falls on such a hypothetic scale...
