Ben dont be naive. There is plenty of religion bashing going on in this thread as well as many others in the west coast boards. Just look at all the pictures xenpro posts, lol. Im not a religious person, but i believe somebody already mentioned the irony of all the discrimenation in this thread, a thread which is based on trying to rid of discrimenation in the first place.

lol those pictures are funny, but I really can't count the number of religious people that are the biggest discriminatory people out there. They are so insular that it is insane. They aren't rational about any sort of thing that is the status quo within their church.

true, but to discrimenate against religious people in a thread that is supposed to be about anti-discrimenation is irresponsible. You guys are making it out to be as if it were about homosexuality vs. religion or gays vs out of state mormon groups, when it should be about proper interpretation of the constitution.

The out of state Mormon groups thing is true. I am a former Mormon, and can attest to this myself. You can't discount that influence either.

I do agree though that it has become a bit discriminatory. I apologize to anyone I may have offended in that respect.

The taxability of health benefits jumps to the front since it's an issue that most everyone can relate to and has an immediate financial impact. Depending on one's health status, not getting COBRA benefits could be devastating to certain individuals. Having someone's life insurance proceeds go to the government rather than a partner because they didn't specify a beneficiary could be even worse.

In each of these situations, married couples are covered and domestic partners are left out in the cold. I am voting NO on Proposition 8...in about 10 minutes as a matter of fact, opening my absentee ballot now! On behalf of the minority, I thank the majority for their support.

you know, it's not the same. institutionalized discrimination is what the religious right is pushing for here - weaving discriminatory policy into the fabric of our law and government. the discrimination towards religious zealots seen here is more of a cultural backlash stemming from their own incessant determination at projecting religious morality upon our free and secular society. in fact you can't really call it discrimination when it's just educated people laughing at the naivety, hypocrisy and irrationality of an archaic and controlling belief system that holds things like free thought, scientific method and cultural plurality in contempt. when i "discriminate" against religious people who support regressive activism, i have the ability do so by focusing on the merit of their argument rather than latching on to some narrow judgment upon someone's lifestyle preference. have you ever heard a biblethumper form an argument without leaning on god's will and that sensational piece of fiction known as the bible?

This is an appropriate apologetics post, up to the 2nd to last sentence! Calling the one of the most sacred texts in the world a "sensational piece of fiction" kills his previous point.
