I also appreciate the difference of opinion, I just want to say that I find Rush's position and opinions to be extremely hurtful. He is doing damage to the fabric of this country. He is an agent of intolerance. He doesn't seek better understanding he seeks greater division.
The fact that a man who preaches such can make so much money is really frightening to me. |
Well... I don't want to play the defender role too much. All I can say is that for anyone who really listens to his show regularly instead of getting the occasional sound bites, you'd see that he isn't the demon you think he is. His intolerance is of the formation of the nanny state and the policies that take us there.
As for this post:
| quote: | I don't think that taxes are the devil. I like taxes. I like paying taxes to fund the greater good of my country. I think that a tax system in which we have a small amount of redistribution for the greater good while keeping a capitalist model for enterprise and the economy is good.
Basically I think there is a middle ground between the failures of both socialism and capitalism in which we can get more people to be prosperous and have greater opportunities for everyone.
At this point the Republican party and conservative ideology have gone gung ho against that sort of idea. I don't think the answer is to swing completely in the other direction, but I believe that most of what Obama et al are proposing is what have been hoping for for many years. Poor people deserve a break. Hard working people in the middle class who are scraping by deserve a break. They don't deserve to be dependent. They deserve a break. And I think thats what they're going to get here. |
.... I'm really not that far off from you in most of this, in terms of wanting to see people have better opportunity, better lives, and be rewarded for their hard work. I hope it happens, but I just think there's a better way. I'd like to add the caveat that I also don't think a large portion of the republicans' ideas are the answer either; there is a small minority of them that I can stomach these days too.
