i'm for a different kind of funk that doesn't really incorporate bleeps and bloops and cell phone tone dials, no offense, appreciate the release, bought 2/3 tracks. h.e.a.d.s just isn't for me

+1

Are there any good music journalists for EDM? Maybe there is a blog or two out there worth reading.

it doesn't sound inspired by Los Angeles.

At least when you listen to Above & Beyond, you get the tears that inspired the production. I mean you shed tears in sadness to how trance has progressed. And Above & Beyond cry when they make music. Yeah, that's what I mean.

In fact, even when you listen to an instrumental of Bone Thugs and Harmony, you get the inspiration of the Streetz Yo. The sounds of grenades, tanks and mortar shells really help.

If I were to listen to to this music in my car, would I experience more or less road rage? Did the artist make the effort to record the sound of a dump truck's warning signals as it reverses through a residential alleyway at 3AM in the morning (and embed a sample into this release)?

Yeah, don't worry, just slap Inspired by Los Angeles on that label. The spirit of Los Angeles doesn't mind.

But yeah, I am confused how this is inspired by Los Angeles. Please disregard everything above. It is nonsense. But please undisregard the following question: What does this have to do with Los Angeles?

Do you have anything to do with Los Angeles to be critical about something rather subjective? If music is being made in Los Angeles by producers who live, who grew up in Los Angeles County or nearby it, or visit the city and surrounding cities often on nights out, it is not hard to be inspired by the city. Just looking at some of the skyscrapers or the old apartment buildings makes me want to write something that tells their story, or a story that might have gone down in one. Whether the music actually sounds like music that originated in another scene or is famous in another city, I don't think that defines absolute inspiration for the artists that make music inspired by Los Angeles or any other city. A ride on the LA Metro could inspire a track, simple is that. If James in New Orleans made Detroit Techno, it would surely have New Orleans inspiration, life inspires does'nt it? We are products of our environment.

As far as Los Angeles developing its own sound that people could easily associate with the city, I think it is very possible. At the moment when I think about the Los Angeles's sound, I think about rooftop party music that is debacharous, sometimes deep, with a funky edge that is about having fun.
