Before that I used to go in the enviroment to create a custom sysex controller for each of the parameter of any of my outboard synths.

No shit. It is called an editor librarian and editor librarians have been around trust me.

A stereo field with a stereo oberheim matrix 1000?
hehehe. It's not your fault.
Synths back in the day had one output. You would hook that out to a mixer and track it. Around the early 80s the dx7 came about that was an all digital synth. It took over the whole market because it was so much more profitable than the 70s discrete analog synths. So manufacturers started producing synths with all digital components to save money making them. This prety much ended the great era of analog synths and now the old discete analogs are demanding rediculous amounts of money on the second hand market. There was one prolem though. It just did not sound right. So to cover up the fact that the synth had an overall weak sound and sounded flat and tiny they would add all sorts of effects to the output section to try and make things sound a bit better. Well stereo based effects need a stereo output. That is where the stereo output came to be. You do not create a stereo field with the synth noob you place the synth in the stereo field in the mixing stage or double it to make it wider but I don't expect a noob on his second synth to know any of that so I am not going to go hard on you here. After all it would be way too cynical to suggest you buy 5 matrix 1000 units to create a 5.1 souround synth.

I will start with the nord lead he was considering.
Yes nords have a better digital sound engine than the virus synths.
They also come with a nice knob pannel to tweak the parameters hands on instead of a box with flashy lights and no expensive knob pannel.
Give me that over the virus any day.
A dave smith synth.
A mogue rogue and a juno 106.
A korg mono poly and a jv 1080
A ittle phatty and a roland jv 2080
An emu 6400 ultra and a s electronics synth.
I could go on forever naming synths keyboars sound modules that represent a far greater value for $1000 than the access virus synth no knobs version but I make good money selling them so if any of you want one hit me up and I'll hook you up.

If the late 90s early 00s fx overload PPK-tatu-all-the-things-she-said-all-the-things-she-said sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1agzp_PM-Z4is is something you like, a virus synth would fit the bill quite nicely just don't come on here and present it as the only sane option and insult the people who know a thing or two more than you about how these things are made. You seem to know it all so I will bow out this thread and let you the expert have the last word.

Robby congrats on your new synth.
I hope it helps you get the sound you are after

So wait, what do you do for a living?

You sell synths? "I make good money selling them".

In general psychology, thats called personal incentive, and I'm wondering now if you just don't sell virus's, orrr do you? (thats the most relevant question I think anyone could ask you at this point) You have reason for monetary gain in this thread, I don't, nor does Steve, and along those guidelines, I do not trust you at all or have a shred of faith in anything you say about your subjective interpretations of synths. YOU ARE A SALESMAN. You basically just plugged youself.

I have heard a 2 of Dave Smiths synths, they're nice but lack in the lead sound I strive for.
Korgs have never impressed me, I see no benefit for trance in anyway with a Korg. Little phattys are nice, but still, where are my leads and pads? The virus has phat, bright lush pads, I never heard those on a phatty before.

Maybe I haven't had the opportunity you have, to put in the time you have, but I love the virus. It sounds "right" to me. Maybe I fell into some overhype, I'm not sure what you're point is.
But so far you've ended 2 of your comments saying you hope the virus helps me reach the sound I'm after.
And if you read in my first post, thats not what this was about (getting the virus to make my sounds better). Even if the virus did make a sound brighter or lusher, the general melody, mix, and skills I've acquired since coming into production ARE whats going to determine whether I get closer to the sound I want in the end.

So thanks, but no thanks.

Lots of people make the mistake of trying to mix loads of stereo instruments in the mix, try tracking in mono, panning/doubling/delay and reverb should give you your 'stereo field', its easier to mix mono files(with a couple of stereo files), than a big wash of stereo instruments, your mix will have no depth and little clarity.

that is all

lol its funny because you know when Robby starts a thread its going to be 10+ pages in just a few days, if not a few hours.

His threads are the only ones that consistently reach 10+ pages everytime.

I just spent a couple of hours listening to various audio demos and sounds from the Virus and Nords and I have to say, I'm shocked you chose the Virus. The Nord has such a raw and beautiful sound, especially the 2/2x. Fuck it, I'm gonna buy the rack!

Maybe I'm not getting my point across here...........

2 mx1000's

1 mx1000 on one track, 1 on the other. Take a send and send a widening/stereo effect to each track and wet it to desire.

You now have 12 analog voices for around $600 and they are not sounding like the original mono synth if it were on its own.

This isn't rocket science guys. I got this idea from somebody else who had done it and said it was a beast. I don't see what the problem is here and why people want to debate what I said above. You can't debate that because everybody knows its not just possible but most likely very kick ass.

keyboards are the way to go but the question you have to ask yourself is can you play....cau if you dont know scales and chords you are going to get bored of ure keyboard very very quickly and load up a vst and open up a piano roll etc etc.... for me keyboards are trance... up until about 2004 very one had keyboards and trance was magical.. now its all vsts....
I cant honestly put my finger on it but there is something that keyboards add to the music...it maybe being a faction of a second early and late on notes it maybe that you program differently but there is something..... this is my personal opinion...
