This had nothing to do with G20 btw. with Cops are getting more and more nervy around here.

A frat brother of mine who's a cop in TO once told me on a personal level that they don't like strangers taking unwanted pictures of them as much as you and I. They're human after all. In this scenario, they have no idea who the taker is or why. Cops through their badge numbers are traceable, and like you and I... if a stranger takes a picture of you, and you don't know their motive, then have your name, and may be able to find your home, and this person is a 'peaceful protester (and we all know just how peaceful they are )', then yeah I'd be worried about my family too. Not an easy job for them. Not all cops are assholes.

there were no cops in my picture. it was a photo of a banged up car that had been in an accident (with no cops around until i took the picture and he comes running over).

As for taking pics of cops, they may not like it but its part of their job. Just like how the public gets filmed and photographed by cops routinely. You can take a pic of them legally and they cant do anything about it although im sure they will try their lovely intimidation tactics to convince you otherwise.

From the National Post today;

These protesters deserve a good beat-down by the grammar police.

meh. if cops were being dicks about pics during an event, say stanley cup parade, i'd be the one mocking the cops

G20 summit... enough loonies out there to try something. funny thing is, you can easily plan attacks merely using Google Earth for maps and satellite images. and no way in hell there are enough cops to stop everyone from taking pics

well, you never know. if something does happen at G20, just how many people are going to blame the cops and security people for not being vigilant enough?

no one claims that a cop's job is easy. But trampling on citizen rights in order to take shortcuts and using intimidation, and the ignorance of the populace to do it is not right.

The reason most people dont know their rights is that they are never taught them. Also, its very difficult to know the law since its written in legalese and tucked away behind a lot of fluff. This is all done for a reason.

Craig Balish, of AAA Army Surplus in Baldwin Street, models the Canadian version of the $90 gas masks they are selling. (June 21, 2010)

Ike Geist is the owner of an army surplus store on Baldwin St. in Kensington Market. During the past five weeks gas mask sales have jumped from 15 to 20 a week to as many as 100, said Geist.

This is going to be good :P

Apparently this is what the security passes look like LMAO Graphic Designer fail.

A blogTO reader sent us this photo of his G20 security pass the other day, which reveals that world leaders congregating in Toronto have every reason to fear for their safety. There are grave problems with the security credentials that have been issued to residents within the safety zone. Problems that may see impostors from "Ontairo" freely enter the protected area.

Well, not really. But somebody's been a bit sloppy. In light of the massive sum allocated to protect the delegates and fortify the downtown core (not to mention the fake lake fiasco), you'd expect that organizers would be able to spell Ontario.

Or, might it be that the budget has gotten so out of hand that typos like this are left to stand?

Either way, the hallmark of any successful security effort is attention to detail. And on that account, this little mistake is anything but an auspicious sign.

Not that people don't know about this, but this article makes a lot of sense

Why the G20 protesters won’t condemn violence

The fact is that activists find the violent fringe useful
