Keep calm and carry on eh

I was actually quite lucky. With very few exceptions, the people who insisted and spoke in English with me could do it quite well... and some of them actually had some fun with this moonspeaking gaijin that came from afar

He walked toward me at the same time I did him. Does that mean he was as racist as I (apparently) was? Our "connection" was a brief conversation, and to suppose that he was any more likely to be a "psychotic killer" than anyone else I might bump into on the street is a strange suggestion.

I don't know too much about Japanese culture, but I think Wabi Sabi is a very interesting philosophy.

Wabi Sabi, the way I see it, is a direct development of the Buddhist tradition and its exaltation of the concept of impermanence. Like I said, they're very skilled at taking an idea to its logical extreme, in this case, Buddhist aesthetics. Imagine a European country influenced by Heraclitus and then sticking to it. For ever.

I can't think of a single rebel until after the Meiji Restoration, when Euro-American thought ravaged the archipelago.

Ooops

And, yeah, -ko is actually a suffix that means lake. The proper word is mizuumi.

Good luck meeting new people in life if you assume everyone is a "psychotic killer".
