not replacing, there's is still the online poll, but it wont be the only option to pick the best dj.

IMO, the y should have a poll for each genre, then have the top 3 of each genre at an event LIVE. then the crowd and judges score them and online voting for the best sets.

Unlikely. If you read djmag this month, when asked what the future of djing is, many of the 'top 100 djs' talk about their dislike of genres and the convergence of styles. Wheatever we may think, they hate being categorised and see that as happening less and less in the future.

Strangely, we went to Full on Ferry at Sankeys the night before and saw Richard Durand in their who was 'Crasher's 'special guest' the folowing night. He was going about completely unrecognised, saw me make eye contact and we couldnt get rid of him for half an hour! Nice guy though and nice that he still goes out when off duty and talks to punters. I must say that SvD was a pleasant surprise that night.

Going back to your point re. Be @ Space, I think Corsten has suffered from over exposure in Ibiza this year with a weekly residency then regular gigs at Cream and JS - I wonder if Space maybe more suited to an exclusive residency from him? However, Im pretty certain Armada etal will be back at Space next year. Whatever we may think they seem to pull in the crowds but for how long? I remember djs like Tall Paul and Seb Fontaine start to move away from the style that made them famous and they went from djmag top 10 to outside the 100 within three years. Its a fine balance for a dj to remain fresh and relevant and still maintain their core fan base.

RE: Corsten overexposure, Sankeys needed a few leading names with residencies to get their venture up and running, being in a quiet sidestreet at Playa d'en bossa. Did he have that many Cream gigs? We based our Ibiza trip round seeing him & van Dyk together, A&B seemed to be headlining an awful lot.

Put it all together though: Full on Ferry at Sankeys, Be @ Space, Gatecrasher, Cream and JS and that's the most Trance Ibiza has had on show for several years, perhaps it's cause for optimism?

Richard Durand is underrated IMO, he's done well with the ISOS series that Tiesto discarded. Regret not seeing him now at Gatecrasher out there and Roger Shah for that matter.

Next year, you would assume that they'll keep that Space residency as "BE" was struggling before they moved in. I wonder though if a rebranding would be in order, as Armada's clout would demand such recognition. With that in mind though I couldn't see the likes of Ferry having a look in, it will be kept exclusive to anyone who's on the books of David Lewis Productions.

It's 1 thing to remain relevant, but it's a sad day if luminaries in the trance world are starting to turn their back on the genre or even put the boot in altogether, just look at the number of DJ's in that top 100 whom we would recognise as Trance producers saying they don't want to be labelled as 1 genre. You going back out next year then?

For the record, I truly hate televoting, and if they ever wanted a voting to be fair they should use the online poll and be sure only one IP address can vote once, although I'm not sure if that even helps. Money, money, money.
Until now I only saw televoting unfortunately, which is why if television would be used I expect televoting will appear.

Last week a soccer show won a price in Holland over The Voice Of which everybody expected to win. And now they are thinking of something else. They blame the televoting which is stupid in the first place, so the morons let it happen. I laugh about it.
O, to explain, 500,000 vs 3,500,000 weekly viewers. So it was kind of a surprise the soccer show won.

Agree with all of that. Id been to Ibiza 7 times but had a 7 year hiatus until this year. Just a four day break but really enjoyed it and we agreed to go back next August. Having a bit more disposable income at my age helps, as does a decent hotel at the quiet end of Play d'en Bossa. Are you heading back?

Re. djs turning their back on trance - their comments in dj mag this month sum it up, its a dirty word to most and many are introducing indeed introducing horrible electro elements to much of their sets.

Did you go to Sankeys? I really liked the place. There were less than 1k in when we went in August, hence the over exposure concern. I agree with you, Ferry is with the wrong agent to get a big club night of his own in one of the estalished nighteries. But at Sankeys he offered a great line ups and a proper, decent underground club feel, not dissimilar to the original club. drinks were reasonable by Ibiza standards, as was entry at 20 Euros for Ferry, SVD, Ronski Speed, Sied van Riel and NuNrg.

Ive long liked Sasha and what he does and saw him at a pool party in Ibiza this year and he was still bang on (if you like that sort of thing). Im not sure pool parties are a good barometer of what a dj plays live in a club as Ive only been to one! But, it seems you have that culture in the States and it is becoming popular in Europe too now.

As an up and comer (though he's been around years), Activa always impresses me. He was with Vandit (not sure if he still is as he seems more associated with Enhanced now, even though he started his own label this year). He plays very much in the style of PVD and was the sound engineer for a number of big name djs. He's well worth looking out for.

I was pleasantly surprised by SVD this year. Id never seen him live before and cant say his productions ever grabbed me but he's a classic case of a totally different experience in a club environment.

How about you?

That would be crazy experience haha hope one day I get to experience Ibiza. As far as a club experience goes, the main one here (Beta Nightclub in Denver) seems to be always packed for the big artists. I credit this to their incredible sound quality from four Funktion-One Dance Stacks lined around the dance floor. Recently it seems that dubstep has taken over everyones interest and they are focussing more on those shows

I'm a big fan of Activa as well based off the few songs that I have by him. I doubt he'll tour where I live but I would love to see him perform. The PVD style live is soooo refreshing and intense because most of the trance played now is the more commercial stuff; which I do like but it doesn't come close to the rush you get from the heavier euphoric stuff in my opinion.

I saw SVD this year at EDC as well and definitely enjoyed that. As I said, more people are joining EDM through dubstep here so the crowd was somewhat scarse which is a shame. For me PVD this year at Beta was the best I've seen and last year as well at Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks too. Something about his sets make the experience unreal. Also saw Armin and A&B who did a great job. Idk if you're a big fan of Marcus Schossow but his live sets are fabulous; he was definitely up there with the them.

Yep I'll be back, got a few more years before I hang my glowsticks up for good!

We landed very late Tuesday so we managed to squeeze an hour in at Sankeys at that full on Ferry night. I hope Sankeys keep the venture going and they offer a trance residency next year and you're right it's an underground feel, a Sankeys feel and offers something different to the rest of Ibiza. Perhaps they could put something together based around the dutch connection running through the lineups they had there, just a thought?.

P.S. Ferry Corsten headlining at Brixton Academy NYE!
