off the top of my head im gonna say 3-4 animations... but its not the animations, i feel they need more leds... i beleive in Sankeys NY there on a hydralic rig that goes up and down... im gonna assume thats hella expensive but if Coda gets something like that, i believe that would be a defining characteristic of a club later on down the road...

I believe Scuba is playing the Pre-Party

Footwork (I'm just going to keep calling it Footwork) can be counted on to consistently bring the best bookings, crowds, and atmosphere among Toronto clubs - and its most recent iteration has only taken that up a notch. However, there is also the "experience" of a club to consider - namely, its aesthetic qualities and the visceral spectacle of it all. To which end, I'd agree with what you seem to be getting at here. FW is a reliably good, consistently enjoyable place, but its nights as viewed independently have never been the most memorable. Smaller places like this are generally going to be at a natural disadvantage to some of their larger, more legendary peers though.

I'm too young to have experienced such venerable institutions as Industry, but I can at least remember the likes of Circa and Guv before it sucked. And those made for some pretty damn memorable experiences...but on the other hand, they never had the same breadth of well-curated nights and warm vibes that FW has. But, I know how much of a challenge operating a club can be, especially when it comes to securing a good location in Toronto. And overall, FW is easily the best club in the city today and probably like...the third best in North America after Output and Stereo. So, I'm not going to fault them for not having 40 ft. ceilings, a 2,000 person capacity, and a 500,000 gallon shark tank suspended in the middle of the room. Still though, just as far as the physical space goes, BLK BOX and 99 Sudbury are my favourite mid-sized venues in Toronto.

You have alot of good talking points in here that im not going to get into... but i will say a small club can be very memorable... im gonna mention Ceilo in NY... so i think Coda can do it...
to me the ink clubs are the best in the city... its just you know... i could care less for the shitty djs they book... even maison mercer and cobra have a bit of a mystique to them...

lets just leave it at they need to jam that space up with LEDs... every where lol like i want LED's in the flucking floor god damnit lol and i want laser beams shooting out of the staffers buts! lol

Toronto has me so inspired again. I already love Coda, 2014 is going to be a fun year for the clubber!

You try holding a winter jacket around for 3+ hours and I'll see how you feel.

Although I didn't attend, it seems like I'm the only one who doesn't quite care for the lasers in the ceiling. Watching the video, the club seems to lose the "darkness" that is typical of underground clubs and Footwork itself. Although towards the end of the video things seemed more reasonable with a small amount of light being put out from the ceiling. Maybe it's just me but I prefer not to have flashes of light which make the club seem like it's daytime.

Other than than I can't comment but it's nice to hear positives from everyone. Can't wait to see for myself.

I was there for 3-5am and I left it on the side where some seats were, as did many others.

You could have waited around 20mins or so to check your coat.

BTW the washroom situation is perfectly fine. I believe they even put some new sinks in. 5 urinals is good enough and 3 stalls is ideal (4 I would prefer), but its much more than the previous place so I'm not really sure what your deal is with that.

Maybe you should stay home. You do sound bitter.

LED lights are no lasers!

and if you like dark, you'd LOVE THE new toika. Everything is painted black and the only light is on top of the bar (behind the dancefloor, the exit sign, the light off the dj gear and projection behind the dj booth.

I saw that raised seating area, which was a nice touch to the club btw as you could overlook the dancefloor and chillout there as well and yes there were some jackets there as well but I didn't want to risk it being stolen/lost/being thrown on the floor, nor should I have to since there is coatcheck... I mean that's why you have something like that in the first place, so you don't risk losing your jacket or block areas meant for seating. FYI, I did check every 30 mins or so on the situation there and even after 2 AM when people were leaving, they still told me and my friend to wait.

The washroom situation was fine after 3 only because the crowd thinned out a lot, but it was a madhouse before. And no, the washroom didn't have much more stalls/urinals than FW. Maybe 1 more urinal, but still small considering how this place is at least twice as big as FW.

I ain't bitter, I'm just not blinded by the hype of the opening of this place. Overall it's way better than FW with the lighting, layout, and sound for sure but it's clear that Coda can't handle a full capacity crowd with everything they offer. Maybe it's a first night thing, so there will be hiccups for sure so maybe next time it'll get corrected.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read his post. So miserable.

On a side note, the club looks really nice, and those pics are amazing! Really excited to check it out.

Give the club a few weeks. There are some nice surprizes coming.
Not everything was ready for the opening.

Just like Electric Island we are quick to respond and fix all the tiny issues.

Exactly. You can't expect a club to be perfect when it first opens. There will always be things that need to be ironed out, and improved on over time.

Does anyone remember when )(otel closed down for a bit to make renovations? I went the night that it re-opened, and it was an absolute disaster. I believe there was flooding right when they were about to open the doors, so we got stuck waiting outside in the cold for an extended period of time. When they finally let people in, it looked like a construction zone. It wasn't even close to being finished. And, the renovations were questionable. That really tall DJ Booth was so awkward, you could barely see the DJ over it. In that case, the renovations weren't even an improvement at all.

At least CODA sounds like it's on the right track!

I still remember, January 27th, 2006 This is London opening with Deep Dish.

They were still fucking painting when Deep Dish were playing! If you leaned against certain areas you got paint on your clothes lol.

Coda are proper operators, some of the best in the business, so they will fix the sink lol.

the line up situation needs to be adressed for paying cash customers...

and more LED's! lol

i kind of like that its not as dark as Ryze... that place is submerged in complete darkness... which isn't always bad but, some light helps...
