Bandwagoners arn't real fans, rather people who watch the games because of all the hype and claim to be supporters of the game when they dont know any players besides ronaldo and beckham lol.

I was backing England at the start and Italy, Spain & Holland were my next favorites (in that order) so its obvious who im backing. Anyhow, im still disappointed at englands exit but had predicted an italian world cup win b4 the start of the tournament so im happy that for once my prediction came through. Football's usually very cruel to me .

Yes most fans do have a number of teams they cheer for. Cheer being the key word. But when It's clear that you DID cheer for another team and then you hide the fact that you cheered them but never ever showed interest in another team until they lost....that's not being supportive, that's ridiculous. That would be like me waving around the flag of Germany for the past 3 weeks, but now I'm going to wave the Italian flag** or Portugese flag when I never ever montioned that I like dthem , or I was a fan and supported them.

** I say Italian the most, because that's who most people seem to be "switching to" or leaning towards.

lol, its like you said before with the key word being "Bandwagon". Fair weather fans, don't really care about any team rather they just want to be among the so called cool crowd majority supporting the favorite team to win.

Even in the club system, at one time everyone was supporting manchester united and real madrid but now the consensus has shifted to Chelsea and Barcelona.

It doesnt really affect me though, they do more good than harm by contributing to the atmosphere. Unless they are citizens of a participating country, let them have their fun but ask them to name more than 2 players from the team they are supposedly backing just for the heck of it .

As annoying as the banwagoners ( or whatever else you would like to call them) are, It's truly laughable. They don't know what they are talking about half the time, nor can they hold a convo about the game they just watched. It is funny if you think about it. Gave me good laughs the past few weeks.

True, but you find them in every field and not just in football. People without adequate knowledge in a particular field dont care about things that arnt in the spotlight anymore.

I think ur just upset about germany's elimination. Sorry i just had to say that but weeks of dealing with malek on the sports forum, im on a bit of an anti german football run these days.

LOL..oh no no !! I knew they weren't going to beat Italy. I'm not Malek, I don't think like Malek, nor do I agree with some of the things Malek says. I am one of those people who Saw Germany lose, and has accepted it fully. Every 4 years we get a chance to win , so 2010, we'll try again, lol. I'm not bitter about it, or upset. Good luck to Italy and France ,that's all.

+1. Now that Brazil is gone, along with all other South American countries, I'll cheer for France to win but I don't really support them the way I supported other countries. I'll be cheering for them partly because I've liked how they've played these past few games (Zidane and their defence have been very good), plus it would be a cool way for Zidane to retire. But overall I'm pretty neutral.

In terms of me supporting Brazil, although I'm not Brazilian, I've loved Brazilian football ever since I can remember. As a football fan, for me it's not about going for the team who always wins. I support Brazil because they play the game the way I think it was meant to be played (or at least they were expected to play it that way this year dammit!), the way I used to play it in the barrio back home with my friends, with passion, skill, spirit, fun and mutual respect. Furthermore, besides the strong ties within all the Latin/South American countries, and amongst other things, there is a close historical football tie between my country and Brazil that goes back many years. Peruvian and other South American kids look up to our South American neighbour as the big brother they want to grow up to be like when their football careers mature. There is respect and solidarity between the nations on and off the field which is partly cultivated through generation after generation of appreciation of the way the Brazilians play the sport and the respect shown by Brazilians towards other football nations. Additionally, it has been a long lived tradition to show some support for whatever other Latin/South American team is in the WC, again, due to the close ties between Latin nations (aside from maybe the Argentines since nobody really likes them .. lol - jk) and well Brazil has been the flag carrier for South American football for the past few World Cups.

In my case, I think I've followed football from the moment I was able to reason, later played it for 14+ years in amateur and semi-professional leagues, and have always either supported my country (the few times they haven't sucked to the point of embarrassment lol) or Brazil but have also cheered for other countries whose style of play I've liked, such as The Netherlands, back in the Van Basten / Ruud Gullit era. That being said, I don't think it's a sin to have multiple teams you cheer for and support as long you enjoy the sport and there is a reason as to why you like that team aside from blindly following the masses. But yes, I do realize there are people such as my sister who have never followed nor played football, yet had a Brazilian flag on her car until last Saturday then took it down and added a "Go Portugal" message on her msn, which has now been replaced by a "Go Italy!", meanwhile not being able to name more than one player from any of those teams, hell she hasn't even watched a single match lol

In any case, just enjoy this beautiful sport and stop worrying about who is supporting who. The World Cup and events such as this don't happen often enough and worrying about silly things such as this only limits the time you spend enjoying the best sport in the world!
