The Chaser team's arrest after driving a fake motorcade into Sydney's restricted zone - with one member dressed as Osama bin Laden - proves APEC security is a success, the NSW Police Minister says.

Two stars of The Chaser's War on Everything have been detained after conducting a fake motorcade through Sydney.

It’s believed that Morrow and Licciardello were involved in staging a fake motorcade of cars and motorbikes which managed to get through at least two security gates before being detected and intercepted by Police. Licciardello is reported to have been dressed as Osama Bin Laden.

The ABC has confirmed that Julian Morrow and Chas Licciardello, stars of the comedy program The Chaser's War on Everything, were both arrested and have been detained by Police approximately 10 meters from the InterContinental Hotel where United States President George W Bush is staying.

Taylor says the motorcade was made up of three cars.

"A lot of people were involved [in this stunt]," he said.

"Some have been detained and some haven't."

Taylor says the crew members have been detained in their cars, while police wait for special units to arrive.

Lawyers for the ABC are also on their way to the scene.

The Chaser convoy had been dressed up to look like an official Canadian motorcade.

"No particular reason why we chose Canada," Taylor said.

He says they thought it was feasible Canada would only have three cars in its motorcade.

ABC spokesman Peter Ritchie has confirmed Licciardello and Morrow have been detained, but not arrested.

Sydney is this week hosting APEC. Some roads and rail stations are closed and a huge steel and concrete wall has been erected around the city to help police manage crowds and block vehicle access when necessary.

On an unrelated note. My dad's offered to pay for me to go away with him next month (he's on his own now and has nobody to go with for hotels etc) but he doesn't wanna goto the couple of places I'd like to, eg cyprus. do i convince him to goto one of the greek islands, mainland spain, menorca, tenerife or portugal ?

Not working, no kids, no school, no real responsibilities aside from the dog and the chance to get out of the house.

Dog is taken care of, mother & brother would deal with her for me, or my auntie would have her for the week to play with their dog, who adores poppy, even if pops is afraid of her cos she's a big golden retriever.

I'm hoping Menorca out of most places, because it's really unspoilt & beautiful, found a nice villa as cheap as an apartment complex, so will see how it goes with him when i speak to him later. plus private pool and terraces rock
