Mambino?
If your saying the Red Sox dosnt spend money to buy a championship your crazy,The Red Sox have the 2nd higest payroll with 127.3 million. The Yankees Payroll last year was 152.7 million and it increased greatly this year because of that dumbass ARODs signing to 184.2 million.
In a business point of view I admire these teams Owners for putting up all that money(I hate John Henry though,a Marlins thing). But damn dont you guys think thats way to much money for a couple of baseball teams lol.The Angels are the only other team with a payroll above 100 million. The Brewers are the poorest with 27.5 million only.

Your "point" was proved last year with the Marlins, plus money hasnt won a championship for the yankees in this millenium. They Suck.
Just giving you some info

I totally lost my respect for alex Rodriguez since that play in game six, seeing the Yankees losing again: priceless.

To me, it's not the salary of the two teams. It's the players. The Re Sox are filled with no-name guys who happen to play well together, while the Yankees are filled with All-Stars. Who is Mark Bellhorn? WHo is Bill Mueller? Who is Kevin Millar? These are all nobodies. The only non-all star position on the Yankees is 2nd base. Red Sox have Nixon, Mueller, Millar, Cabrera, & Bellhorn who would all be (and some were) nobodies when they weren't on the Red Sox.

and i wouldnt exactly call manny, varitek, pedro, foulke, or schilling "no names". are the majority of the guys on the team all star caliber, probably not, but i wouldnt call them no names. maybe the average viewer doesnt know who they are but people that follow the sport (like me and you) know them. teams have won the world series with a lot less talent, just look at the Diamondbacks.

But that's my point. My mom can name the entire Yankee lineup. However, when asked to name some Sox, she comes up with "Manny Rodriguez. That jerk... Pedro Martinez. And that guy who looks like Jesus."

We know who Cabrera is. We know who Bellhorn is. We know who Nixon is. But ask the average fan over in Los Angeles if he/she can name 6 or 7 Red Sox positional players and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't get passed Manny, Ortiz and Damon. Possibly Varitek, but he's probably the least known of the elite catchers in baseball. I just think comparing the Yankees lineup to the Red Sox lineup is like comparing apples to oranges. Picture the Yankees with Giambi again:

Jeter
Rodriguez
Sheffield
Giambi
Matsui
Williams
Posada
Olerud
Cairo

Now here's this year's Red Sox:

Damon
Bellhorn
Ramirez
Ortiz
Varitek
Nixon
Millar
Cabrera
Mueller

I just think there's a much bigger difference in terms of 'star quality' in those two teams. Thought I agree that both teams are way overboard in terms of salary.

New York had Four legitimate stars on their team available for game 7: Jeter, Rodrigues, Sheff, and Matsui. Everyone else in the line up was a support player.

Boston has: Manny, David Ortiz, Pedro, and Schilling. Four guys, same as the Yankees.

Everyone can hate on the Yankees for being the over priced team etc. etc. Look at the four teams that were in the AL and NL championship games, each team had at least four superstars. There is no more talent gap amongst the top teams in the league. All four have over spent to get where they are.

People who rant on the Yankees for spending money, but then praise the Red Sox are fucking morons. Why do you think Jeter, Rivera, Bernie Williams and Posada make as much as they do? Because they helped win FOUR World Series!! That's why they got those huge contracts...proven winners. And they all came up through the farm system too.

The Red Sox still have a huge payroll without proving that they can win the big one. They haven't done it yet remember? And if they do win, you'll see their salary sky rocketing too.

David Ortiz was a NOBODY before he came to the Red Sox. No one knew who he was. AND he's making chicken scratch compared to the numbers he puts up. He is the biggest bargain in baseball. I'm just going by names, not abilities. Olerud is a bigger name than Millar. Williams is a bigger name than Damon (although arguably not now). Jeter over Cabrera. Even Cairo over Bellhorn, though I wouldn't consider either a star.

This is all I'm saying. I'm not saying anything about salaries, you guys are.

Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter and especially Jorge Posada were NOBODIES until they won the World Series. That's when they started to make the big bucks.

Just watch Ortiz's new contract...they'll have to sign him for at least 12 million a year.

You think so? He signed a new contract already through 2007. 2 years, 12 million. 6 million a year. Which is why he is and will be the biggest bargain in baseball for at least the next 2 years.

And Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada won World Series a year after they came up. Bernie Williams WAS a nobody before the 96 season.

I think (and want) Houston will go through to face Boston. How glorious would it be to see Roger Clemens stick it to Red Sox fans in a Game 7 at Fenway Park?
