This is the first WEMF I'm going to miss in 5 years! So I haven't been paying too much attention to what's happening. I saw the line-up when it was first released... I was very "un"impressed! especially with the lack of trance DJ's in the line-up (definately not lik eit used to be)... back to my point... So now I'm reading that JOOF has cancelled (or his agent did) and this really pisses me off, because JOOF was, BY FAR, the main headliner for this years WEMF, and now that he's not playing, I'm really not regretting missing this at all.
I know this is by no means Destiny's fault, they got SCREWED, and it's unfortunate. You would think that because JOOF has played at WEMF's before, he would be considered a landmark DJ, which would continue high ranking among trance DJ's.
Sure he can go make himself more popular in S. America, but his agent obviously isn't thinking clearly. THIS IS WEMF FOR GOD'S SAKE!!
I feel sorry for those attending WEMF this year and not being able to see JooF play. He truly had everyone in AWE last year with probably the most memorable set of WEMF '04. He will be missed

Seems like Destiny can't win.
They have John "OO" and people bitch that they brought in the same ol' trance DJ that has been playing every year at WEMF.
John drops and they bring in the newest hottest prodigy that has NEVER played in North America and people are still unsatisfied.
OS has already stated that deals were on the table for many of the 'big boys' (ie. Tiesto, Christopher Lawrence, PVD, AVB, etc...) but scheduling didn't work out.
Over HALF of the DJ's performing at WEMF fall across in the trance genre.
As OS said "We are trying to be the WORLD EMF with a wide variety of sound so to focus on one would be counter intuitive."
Think of the the fans that like breaks, garage, speed garage, Detroit techno, hard house, micro-house, dance hall, ghetto-tek, trip hop...
There's only 1 breaks headliner and no garage and many other genres at all.
And I doubt that most partykids in Canada have caught RITM's breathtaking show that includes Hollywood level costumes, stage performers, dragon slayings, grapling guns, flying bunnies and pyrotechnics more than a couple times on their home soil.
I'll get in my comfort zone with the 1-2 DJ's that spin the house I love. But then I'm left to explore other types of sounds throughout the rest of the weekend. It's honestly pretty shallow to sit at the same stage listening to the same style of music for the whole weekend while top-notch artists of all different varieties from literally all around the world are right around the corner performing for you.
More people will respond to this festival as the headliner list expands to encompass breaks, house, techno, etc. I understand your craving for more names of the style you cherish. But there's more than enough here for me to be satisified throughout the whole weekend. C'mon, this is gonna be a phatt party!! Happy WEMF!

In a very strange twist of fate John 00 Fleming has been involved in a serious boating accident in which he sustained 4 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He will be hospitalized for a month or more and will not be touring anywhere this summer.
John is great guy and whatever dispute/mix-up we had with WEMF is definitely forgotton as our thoughts go out to him and his family. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to seem him back in the game as soon as possible.
Get well soon John!
OS & WEMF Crew.

Sorry dude, but I didn't bitch once about "Destiny" bringing repeated acts. I especially LOVED seeing Jon the Dentist year after year after year after year.
Adam is not the newest hottest prodigy on the market, but I do agree he is good!
All I was saying that it sucks that they got fucked over, and by "no fault" of Destinys am I regretting missing it. |
Mortyman, I wasn't intentionally trying to flame you. And most of these comments weren't directed at your post specifically. There's just been so much grumbling in this thread about the 'lack of trance' and the performers OS booked for this year that has been completely unwarranted. Your supporting comments and intial statement "I'm really not regretting missing this at all,' pushed my buttons to post.
The lineup has more variety, over half of the music being played will be trance, there are numerous debuts and the main room is larger than all of the buildings from last year COMBINED. This event is going to be amazing. If you've seen RITM's stage performance you would understand that THEY are by far THE headliner of this year and why URB MAGAZINE voted them the #1 live performance act in the country.
It just boggles me when I hear some people stating that they'd pick some club night to see 4 DJ's over the experience that Destiny is setting up for this year's WEMF. I think the last 2 WEMF's will easliy be overshadowed by what Destiny has in store for us this year!
