Long-time TA lurker here, but first time poster. I actually thought the site died years ago, but I was recently reminded of it.
This was my 4th EDM party and by far the most amazing. My friend and I roadtripped from Cleveland, Ohio on an impulse where he whined to his boss about how he'd much rather be in Canada and his boss got mad and kicked him out. This was the first time my friend and I were alone in Canada and we absolutely loved Toronto at night - beautiful. Extremely crowded, also with traffic jams on Gardiner and lots of import racers left and right.
Some nice TA'er pointed out the guestlist line when I asked around and then came in the line a few seconds later. He saked if we were TA'ers but I replied we were only lurkers taking advantage of the guestlist. Sorry . Whose Ferrari was that outside? Who else saw the altercation between the black dudes outside? Anyone know what it was about?
When I first walked into the Guv I was extremely disappointed with the room size. I thought the main room would be at least twice as big, so I kept telling my friend to help me find the main room. When I realized that was the main room and saw how small the crowd was 2 hours after opening, I guess I looked like I was about to cry so some nice girl gave me some first-timer facts about the Guv and it made me feel a lot better actually.
Mark Oliver's set was amazing - surpassed my expectations. I highly believe he got me when he dropped "Say Hello," but that song had been owning me for a week and I was hearing it everywhere. We were both already tired from the drive there so we didn't have too much energy all night.
Above and Beyond were simply amazing. They played every song in my "I hope they play this" mental list - and more. First time I experienced a laser - amazing, surreal - and the ice blast machine. - Did you guys notice when A&B were spurting the ice machine (seen at very beginning of video posted here) they were doing some exaggerated alternating seesaw pumping motion on the button? I thought it was hillarious. - We don't have anything close to this in Cleveland. Moments of the night for me were Satellite, followed by Till There Was You, and then Adagio. I missed No One On Earth because that was one of the several times my friend and I were passing out on some couches. From what I heard from upstairs they remixed it with "For A Girl" and I really wasn't liking it. Like they corrupted a perfect thing.
We weren't able to find any currency exchange places when we got into Canada because they were all closed so we got raped on having to pay all the same prices in USD. The bartenders were assholes and wouldn't make change for a $20 USD bill so they charged us that much for 2 Coronas. That's when we decided we had enough and we'd just dehydrate for the rest of the night. Other things I didn't like were the 40-year-old, mean-looking stoned Asians and all the guys without shirts rubbing up against me. Boy, were there a lot of Asians.
We left around 6 because the party just kept on going and never seemed to stop. And everyone kept dancing! We had no energy left and still had to make a 5-hour drive home. Then we had to spend 45 minutes walking around downtown to find a gas station to buy oil for my car. I checked it when we got at the Guv and it was bone dry. Oh well, destroying a $4000 car was well worth it for the experience I had.
Most amazing time I've ever had. I plan on getting a lot more people to come up there for Labour of Love.
