to make it clearer and to restate what i said before: they will keep raising prices bc people keep on going and nothing stops people from paying more and more absurd amounts of money to see a dj play other people's music.

do u MAYBE get it now? actually, prally not...

To all of you cry babies:

I am that kind of an idiot that makes 2.5K a week and I really do not give a shit if it is 30, 50 100, or 500. All I care about is that I get to listen to the music I like. I am the kind of an idiot that paid 3000 x 2 to go to holland to see TIC and Armin Only. I am pretty sure there are plenty of idiots like me. From my point of view that's a good thing cause people like you dont get to come to the party

But you must be a heck of an idiot your self too. Obviously you do not have a business mind and there is no way you could possibly understand how much it costs to set up events like these.
Quite a few people need to get paid; I will just name a few:
DJ, promoters, organizers, venue owners, agents, security staff, ticket resellers, traveling and vacancy expenses for all those people that come from overseas, people who clean up your mess after the party is over, etc etc.

And remember...all those people want to make PROFIT! That is why they are doing this! They are not a charity! That is what they do for living!

FYI: PVD was 60 at the door. If you where smart enough you could get your tickets in advance for half the price. And still 60 backs IT IS NOT A LOT OF MONEY. if you do not have 60 bucks to go out then STAY HOME AND STOP CRYING. It's not like those DJs are here every freaking weekend.

Invest your 2.5K a week in a reading comp class. Maybe then you'd realize no one complained about the $30 price for tickets. Lunasea complained that people said they'd be willing to pay $100 and that those people are what is ruining the industry. She's partially right. It's the people who view clubbing as some big huge deal and only go out every few months, therefore don't spend as much week-to-week that can afford a "special purchase". If you're out every weekend at least once, it adds up, no matter how much you make. I see Lunasea out quite often and know she's doing more than her fair share in paying to keep this scene thriving.

Good for you if you want to drop $6K to go to Armin Only or TIC. Most of us have other things in our lives, as well as probably do a hell of a lot more clubbing. We understand how the industry works, know where the money goes, etc. We also recognize that there are a lot of people out there who's sole motive isn't PROFIT, but also because they love the music that they're providing.

The other issue is that you're older than me, and I'm one of the older regulars on here. You need to realize that most of the people on here are in college or just got their first jobs. A lot of them simply can't afford it. Is your solution that they should all sit at home on Friday nights while you stand in a half-empty club because ticket prices are too high?

Now, you can stop being a troll who's taking soundbytes but not the whole thought to start an internet argument, or continue and get berated by everyone else who doesn't feel that they should have to fork over their savings for a party.

That is exaclty one of the major reasons the tickets are so 'high'
Too many people want to get in. Not enough room for everybody.
The lines go around the block. Cannot dance. I wish the club was half-empty. WISH!

People need to stop complainging about what other people do or willing to do. Just because you cant do something do not blame it to someone else.

And among the other things people have in their lifes maybe they should not go clubbing every weekend and get a job. I do not go clubbing every weekend not beacuse I do to want to but because I have other things to do as well.

$60 IS NOT A LOT. If you want to pay less do not go for the big-named djs!!!! You can buy a pair of jeans from gap for $30 and you can buy a pair of jeans at diesel for $200. It's your choice and your fault whatever decision you make. Just stop complaining.

No, the real problem is that these dj's think they are more then just that and want their name to be known world wide as to who they are and what they do. So paying $60 to dance is very fucking expensive if you ask me. Not to mention I have to pay $12 for a watered down vodka drink. This music is beginning to lose touch with its roots and becoming yet another money making scheme and it is working.

For the record, I was absolutely kidding when I said I'd shell out $100 to go to this event.

If you think that's the way it should be, I really wish you'd start a club so you could quickly realize how wrong your business sense is. I'd like to know where the lines are halfway around the block, but if you're talking about Crobar, Spirit, Pacha, etc, there aren't that many nights when the line is really long. I've been there when DJs who should draw big crowds, like Ferry Corsten, are playing to a half packed venue and the vibe is usually lacking in energy. I'm not saying I like being packed in like a sardine, but there has to be a good number of people in order for the party to not suck

I'd also like to point out that the people you'd like to keep out because they can't afford it are the people who make the vibe at clubs. If you think that $300 bottle buyers are making it a fun environment, there's a lot of other clubs out there to cater strictly to your crowd. I've been to them. In my opinion, they suck, as the people aren't there for the music, they're there for the prestige and to be scene blowing money, because they can.

BTW, you're the one complaining here. The whole origin of this argument is on your hands because you couldn't understand the original post that you bitchily responded to. 95% of the people on this board don't feel that a cover charge should be $50-60. If you do, go somewhere a little more elite where you and your fellow snobs can rub noses and bitch about clubs crowded with peons. As much as people bitch about Crobar, etc, at least they realize attempt to bring in a economically diverse crowd so that the business side of things is running well, but there's also the fun, younger element to give the crowd life.

to be fair, non-edm concerts arent exactly cheap either (aside from indie rock or up and coming bands)...ppl pay well over 70-80 bucks to see big names like springsteen, billy joel, and well over 100-200 bucks to get good seats for madonna, U2, depeche mode and the rolling stones, and they dont really offer great advance tix prices or even free admission if you get there before a certain time...IMO its the whole corporate money making structure (clear channel for instance)that has capitalized on the concert scene and kept elevating costs...

also, i can see how a huge drop in attendance might force promoters to lower prices, but its pretty unlikely that'll happen cause as ppl have said, there are fans out there that wont think twice about shelling out the exorbitant prices..

You realize that everyone you just listed is an industry legend, who have spent 20-40 years generating a fan base, evolving with the music, etc. They're not Armin van Buuren who just got his DJ celebrity status in the past 5-10 years, depending on when you want to say he achieved that status.

Most concerts of established non-legendary stars are available for $30-50, and that profit's split between multiple band members, not just 1 DJ. I mean, I just saw Prodigy for $35 (+ another $10 to those thieves at Ticketmaster) and they are more legendary and influential to the EDM scene than AvB.

My comments were targeting whoever posted that Armin sucks and trance is dead. This conversation seems to be going much further than that.

And I would have to agree with bogartgreens. The tickets that are so expensive are indeed for Industry legends like Tiesto, PvD and Armin.
Every industry has it's legends. If you had the experience to see these gus spinning it events like Sensation, Innercity, TIC you would soon realize that they are comparable to other genres stars and that the money invloved in these events are astronomical. I am talking about 20-40 thousand people events.

I dont think madonna or u2 would perform at an event where the venue capacity is no more than a few hundred people for $35 a head.

And because I still do not get the point of other peoples arguments
here is my argument.

Sander Kleinenberg $20
Junkie XL $20
Boris @ Crobar NYC $20
Gabriel and Dresden $20
Above and Beyond $20
James Holder $15
Eric Morillo $30

The only reason that many people attend those events is because of the low supply. If they did events like that more than a few times a year, they couldn't sell 1/4 of those tix. Concerts like Madonna and those already mentioned sell that many tickets city to city.
