What the hell happened here?
The guy came here for suggestions from people who had knowledge of the fashion world for the store he is opening up and the lot of you just shit all over him by page 3? I thought I knew what some of you were like, but I am kind of disappointed by some of the things that people have said in this thread.
I do not have a keen fashion sense. I don't care much, that's not for me. I wasn't raised with labels and an appreciation for expensive things in life, so it's hard for me to understand why somebody would spend a few hundred dollars on a single article of clothing, but for fuck's sake, it's a reality of the world that people have an appreciation for these sorts of things. Maybe it's superficial, maybe it's phony - I don't know, but don't cast judgment on people who have a genuine appreciation for something that's been with humanity for as long as all of the other arts have been around. Fashion is a statement, ladies and gentlemen - as ephemeral as appearances may very well be, people study it and fine-tune themselves to appear to be something they are and at times, something that they are not. To say that fashion has no bearing on anything is just complete foolishness.
With that said, LucasYork has stated many times that he doesn't judge people on their preoccupations. Though some of his statements may have been out of line, at least respect the fact that he has taken many steps back to say that, though he may not understand others' participations, he at least respects the fact other people take pride in what they do as much as he does. So why give him shit about what he likes?
Honestly, I think that fashion is just as valid an interest as anything else. Like Lucas has said, most of what we do, we leave here when we die anyways, so why rag on him for wanting to succeed on a social level that he is interested in?
