when the hell did i mention that you doing speed limit causes accidents,
it causes fucking traffic when you go speed limit in the left lane!
speeding on the highway does not cause accident if it's done in a safe manner.

It's a bigger problem than you think.

Driving isn't a right, it's a privilige, that's why we have licences (and graduated licencing), to ensure you know how to safely operate you vehicle. You endanger others, you lose that privilige. I think one week to cool off is perfectly reasonable.
I would say that time trials and/or just seeing how fast your car will go absolutely counts as racing. Racing is just the umbrella term here.

Just because you are in control of your car doesn't mean you're in control of the million other variables such as changes in road conditions, mechanical failure, cars turning out of hidden intersections or driveways or - especially in Algonquin - an errant moose walking out into the road. The stopping distance, reaction time and kinetic energy afforded between 80km/h and 130km/h is signifigant.

Agreed.

This is not true. A reckless driver can be going nuts all over the road, but if they are driving at 40 km instead of 90, they are much more likely to survive when they smash into a tree.

The speed in which you're driving correlates to the severity of the damage done. At 150, you have a wayyyy higher chance of dying from an accident than at 100.

And as I already copied and bolded Dr.Das' comment, being reckless is not a matter of how you perceive your own driving, it is a matter of how well you can react to an unexpected circumstance. The reaction time you have going at 150km is a lot less than 100km, and that extra time could mean yours and someone else's life.

I was on the 401 with a couple of other TOTA's last year... we were driving along and everything was normal, when out of nowhere, the guy beside us lost control of his car. I can only guess that his tire popped or something because it was the most random thing I had ever witnessed. Anyway, he went swerving erratically into traffic and we all witnessed a huge pile up.

No one can predict this. If you were coming at his car at 150km, there is a very high chance you would have flown into him, and died without a doubt.

The rules set out for the road are there to protect the people driving on them. The people who go against those rules need to be severely punished. Why? Is it a punishment for the endangerment you are to others.

If I was in control of anything, I would ticket people for not signaling, for going too slow, for changing lanes incessantly for no reason, for tailgating etc etc.

Road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death! That alone should be enough reason for the tunes to change.

the below is from an accident I investigated...

4 18-21 year olds, travelling 132 KM/h (according to the vehicle computer), struck a small cluster of trees (4 trees ranging from 3" to 5" in diameter).
The front right passenger fractured his tibia, fibula, 3 ribs, left clavicle, and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The driver fractured his skull, femer, bruised his heart, collapsed a lung, suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in cognitive impairments, and spent nearly 2 weeks in a coma.
The rear right passenger was lucky, only broke his righ humerus
the rear left passenger died but not until he had spent nearly an hour in extreme pain.

BTW, the driver swore to me in his statement that he was an excellent driver.

lol @ all the tools who reply to this thread. just grand.

the new law is nothing more than a cash grab. over 2 million in less than a month...

"Street racing" is hardly a huge problem...

just cause your going 150 doesnt mean you are "Racing" cruising doesnt = racing.

leading cause of death where?

im sure heart disease kills more people....

but anyways, howmany of those road deaths are from street racing? the best they come up with is 3x people in almost a decade. big f*cking whoop.
more people die in road accidents because of bad driving than anything else. And speeding doesnt = bad driving.

Last I checked the majority of the accidents on the 401 werent from those goign 150 or more..

the amount of people who go those speeds are in such a small minority compared to overall drivers.

the real issue is driver training, not speeding.

we would be way better off implementing better driver training and retesting then this bs kneejurk reaction cash grab.

and i couldve sworn you(theresea ) dont even have your license.

huh? so? this couldn't have happened if they were going 100-120 just like most other drivers do?

how many times do i have to explain to people that SPEEDING OVER THE LIMIT DOES NOT EQUAL DEATH OR ACCIDENT!! you could be going 100 and do just as much damage as it would be going 132
