Ok ok; seriously. Flip would be a huge improvement over Mitchell but the guy was fired from the T Wolves and was the main target for criticism over the last 3 years with the Pistons. I mean honestly, a monkey could've coached that Pistons team to the Eastern Conference Finals for 3 straight years.

Argh we had a chance at D'Antoni a few months ago! Look how well the Knicks are doing this year. But atleast we have a Canadian head coach now. Lets see how well he does before they find a replacement.

How many coaches don't get criticized at some point during their coaching careers?!?!?!?! Boy, you guys are irritating today. I think I need a drink. lol
Career win/losses: 587 wins, 396 losses (.597 pct)
Regular season w/l are fine and dandy in all but he never really got the most out of his players when it really mattered. Like Peter said, he'd be a definite improvement....but I don't think he's in that upper echelon of coaches. He has a crafty mind in terms of what he does with his teams but again, I've never felt as if he got the best out of his players when it mattered the most.

Colangelo never wanted Sam. I bet this decision was easy for him.

Maybe I should use a different word: he was BLAMED for the Pistons' lack of success after Larry Brown.
Another way of putting it: The Pistons never reached the Finals again because their head coach was outcoached by the opposition.
Regular season wins/losses are irrelevant. The guy never made it into the finals and had WAY better teams at his disposal than the Raptors. Stop acting like he's some sort of coaching god because right now he's maybe only a slightly better option than other available coaches. Having said that: he IS a defense-first coach so I'd probably want him moreso than anyone else coaching our team.

Big whoop D'Antoni is doomed for failure.

What?!?!?! Crazytown. I never said such a thing. I merely responded to your ridiculous comment that "Flip isn't exactly a proven coach."
He may not be Phil Jackson, but he is definitely proven.
I have no idea who they should hire. I honestly don't think it will make a difference with this sorry lot.

But why is it so ridiculous? Dude think about it:
The guy coached on 2 teams in his career. Garnett's T Wolves and Post-Larry Brown Pistons. You're gonna rack up wins on both teams because of the talent; but yet he never won shit. The guy hasn't really accomplished all that much to be proven. And he isn't even close to being in the league of guys like Jerry Sloan to be considered "proven" but never winning anything.
I agree that you need a drink

this news makes me happy. Even better that I found out within 6 minutes of it being posted on nba.com.
We need a defense first coach. Someone competent. Someone who commands respect as a tactician in the locker room. I don't care who, but Flip or van Gundy are the best names out there, and the places I'd start looking first. I just don't see Triano or any of our staff filling the void for long, as S'Mitch has been shutting out [reportedly] their conversation for a long, long time. So much so that they might not even know which of their ideas would have worked and which would not.

hahaha yes and now we get to read about all the stories about how evil Mitchell was.
Wait...wasn't Mitchell supposedly part of the reason Vince wanted out of here so much? Maybe we should make a run for Vince now. If you think about it the Nets kind of owe us for giving them Vince for peanuts; so I guess Joey Graham for Vince wouldn't be bad
