not quite true. Many of the samples that they use come straight from old disco records.

I'm not joining this argument on either side, but just wanted to say that.

Well, because they're in such a strong position as the #1 online source for info/reviews of "cutting edge" edm they can almost create fads on their own, or at least help propel something new into "fad" status extremely quickly.

3 years here as well. 2006-2008. i saw wolf and lamb out there. they sucked. the end. saw lee burridge at the deep end too, he sucked too, nobody was really into it. i imagine they sound much better in a club rather than a noisy dusty windy environment surrounded by fire explosions, glowsticks, shirt cockers, bicycles with blinking lights ridden by people with ADD high on lsd, etc... that style of music does not go down well out there, too many distractions. their comment about the music being outdated shows they are still new to BM and havent figured it out yet. though im glad to hear they took inspiration from the event and brightened up their sound (they mention less people wearing black at their events now)

Why is that? I also agree that Wolf + Lamb released some of the nastiest records in that whole spectrum of dance music this year. The Significant Others EP especially, to me at least, can be considered a very well thought landmark in the whole current deep house scene, and if it isn't I'd call it underrated along with Aphrika which was the tightest track this year imo. I also have labels I'd place above W+L, but they were just phenomenally selective and there's hardly anything I didn't like from them this year.

I wouldn't say that they're on the fad so much as they've championed it. The deep house and disco movement has been prevalent on RA for a while. They had Mark E do a podcast for them when people were still creaming their pants for Dubfire

Because I feel they're much better labels. Wolf + Lamb is great, but c'mon...Running Back released Tensnake's In The End EP as well as Precious System's Voice From Planet Love. Easily label of the year material.

edit // No Delusions Of Grandieur on that last either?? RA is slipping

I'll try not to draw this out any further but I agree with Max. If "everybody is begging you to release your edits" then put them out there for free. A la James Holden and his Britney Spears remixes. Wolf and Lamb even has free shit up on their website, including a Michael Jackson "Rework" by Nicolas Jaar.

I hate to say it, but Soul Clap / Gadi & Zev put these out there because there was demand and they knew they could make a quick buck on them while concurrently remaining in relative obscurity so they likely wouldn't feel the heavy hand of a Motown lawyer laying some justice down on them.

It just reeks of greed in my opinion.

In other news, maybe I'll listen to that "Chicago Afterhours" set for a laugh to see just what I didn't miss, according to pretty much everyone who was there.
