The best is when you run into the train chicks later on in life. They can be successful, be a mom of the year, totally well put together....and even though I always act nice if they ever wonder why i can't wipe the shit eating smirk off of my face it is because inside my brain i am humming this:

No, I am not shocked that there is homework in the university setting, but I also realize that it also has NOTHING to do with the grade you receive most of the time, so it makes sense. If you are the type that needs to do homework to reinforce what you have learned then you need to do it.

The only time I have done homework past high school was if there was a reading assignment or I had to write something (and for English classes that can be every night and it usually counted towards your grade, though I never did the journal writing in my last English class and pulled a 3.8 based on my essays).

All I am saying is that making the majority of your grade based on something that does not reflect any sort of retained knowledge is cheating the students and incredibly stupid.

Also I don't live in a basement ffs... My room is on the first floor and brightly lit, and I split my time between my mom's and my family's beach place.

No, I was too busy studying something that they didn't teach in high school so I could get a job that usually takes a four year degree to get and getting it based on my portfolio alone.

So while you guys go into debt over school I can use the situations available to me to ultimately be more wealthy than you, at least in the short term.

I do not have a single dollar in debt (which sadly means I have absolutely no credit file, not even a number... ).

I know this will sound egotistical and I'll just catch shit for it, but half the time when you guys attack me its over advantages that I technically have over your situation. I am able to pursue what makes me happy at my leisure, I do not have any debt, and I am, personally, able to live fairly cheaply allowing me to actually have a pretty large disposable income.

How are any of those things bad?

Are you not bald and living with your parents?

I don't know how old you are, but I'm assuming you're at least in your 20's, in which case if you live with your parents, it's not called "living relatively cheaply" it's called being a leach.

Oh fucking please Nou, whatever.

I don't have any problem with the benefits that your lavish lifestyle hath lain unto you. That's great your family is loaded and you can just spend the majority of your day arguing your worthless opinions on TA, learning things at your leisure, and prepping for your lifestyle of being more wealthy than I. What I have a problem with is your attitude, you self-entitled twit.

Currently I'm taking two senior year classes that feature some sort of homework as at least 20% of your grade, and in most classes that aren't project based, that is absolutely the norm in college.

It's wonderful you have no debt, I'm very happy for you. You just sit up in that ivory tower of yours and let us know how the world should and should not be.

WRONG. Homework in university is all about independent thought and learning. Essays/papers/research/projects show you know how and where to seek out relevant information and how to APPLY what you have learned. You can't just slap some thoughtless moron shit together that you regurgitated from a textbook - you actually have to show critical understanding of the concepts/material.

Retained knowledge is the most basic, least weighted portion of one's grade. All that shows is that you are good at remembering things.

Testing in university is a lot different than in high school. If you haven't done the real work, you won't do well on the tests.

edit: no sorry, I'm sure YOU would do just fine.

Not really. I help pay for things, I pay the utilities because I draw the most power.

Even if thats leach like... My brother is far worse. He has spent multiple year long trips in Japan at my dad's expense, and has made numerous shorter trips there as well.

Granted he was doing them for school, but most of the time he was just drinking in bars and singing in random Japanese bands...

When I say retained knowledge I mean all that is involved in using that retained knowledge, which include critical thinking and developing ideas and hypothesis from what you have learned.

Then again, unless you are actually going to be doing something innovative, like research or engineering, teaching those skills to people who essentially do nothing more than skilled labor (like you Jenny) is rather pointless.
