back to gender and sexuality... i'm curious since there are so many dudes on this forum - do you think bisexuality for men exists? i think it's interesting that it's not socially acceptable for boys to be affectionate with each other, even in a platonic way, whereas girls can hold hands, sit in each other's laps, and even kiss each other without raising any eyebrows. what makes boys' sexuality more rigid and girls' sexuality more fluid? why are straight girls encouraged to make out with other girls (because it's hot, i know) but straight guys generally couldn't get away with it?

I'm not really getting into the reasons for it, but as for whether or not male bisexuality exists.... well, sure it does. What would make you think that it doesn't?

Because women are stereotyped as "touchy feely" in general. If a woman is being mildly affectionate with someone, in the stereotypical view that need not imply much about her relationship with that person. Whereas guys are thought to be naturally aloof with affection, sort of an all or nothing deal, so the assumption is that if he is being "touchy feely" then he must want to fuck the person.

Historically the rage against gay men was that one of them would have to "play the woman," i.e. be a catamite or "bottom" in modern terms. Since women were supposedly inferior to men, that was a bad thing. In addition to ancient Greece and Rome there is a hint of this distinction in the Bible, where it talks about men lying with men "as with women." This perspective is still with us to some extent.

that's interesting. i hadn't thought about it that way. most people just use that verse of the bible to bash homosexuality, but really they should use it to put women back in their place

in my opinion, because:
a. women are objectified (aka 'it's hot') across the board, by men and women, far more than men. particularly female sexuality. particularly a certain version of it.
b. men have the agency to enjoy this openly, whereas women do not as much - though this is not as much the case anymore, women simply don't in a large way because of (a). that isn't to say that women never objectify men, just not really gay sexuality. (see c)
c. female sexuality and female queerness is marginalized and trivialized (aka the 'she's just never had my dick' theory)
d. intimacy between men challenges traditional male hegemony by disrupting the narrative/role of the alpha male in binary opposition to a female pack. (aka machismo) this is the basis of a lot of transphobia too, because male to female transgenderism undermines male hegemony by nature (though one can argue that it is in essence a privilege as well)
e. traditional the male gender values individuality and competition over sociability and cooperation.

I've always found that women tend to be far more competitive amongst themselves than men are... Most men seem to be able to actually work together on a pretty consistent basis, even if they have differences personally with someone they tend to ignore it and actually work towards the goal at hand, where as women in the same situation I have noticed almost ALWAYS let their personal bias and feelings play a dominate role in their group interaction.

Its fucking annoying.

Right, but the gender question is about values. And as you said, you find this behavior annoying with women, whereas men are typically rewarded or admired for the same behavior.
