It is an R. 18 in the UK. I wasn't very clear, but I meant that it's now standard for action films to strip the blood, sex and profanity down to get a more profitable PG-13 rating, whereas Dredd didn't. So compared to the market, it's pretty all-out. Again, no idea what you think it's "holding back on".

And thanks for that detailed clarification of your thoughts on the production style. "Just normal". I sincerely hope you put more thought into films when you come to score them.

Just wanted to share this since I mentioned it before.

Dredd's editing isn't as slow as I thought. The average shot length is 3.7 seconds, which can still be considered conventional when compared to mainstream comic book adaptations (Iron Man - 3.7, Thor - 3.2, The Dark Knight - 3.1, Superman Returns - 3.1).



The action just feels slow. Characters hardly run and there aren't any real chases. At times there is a general sense of busyness, but not of movement. Most of the dialogue is also edited relatively fast with plenty of reaction shots. The pace of the film is quite steady.

There are a few heavily stylised "MTV" segments - the rapid montage for the rise or Ma-Ma and the psionic duel between Anderson and Kay, not to mention the CCTV views that act almost as establishing shots - but the bulk of the action (from memory) is staged and edited in a pretty no-nonsense, retro style.
