What I have a problem with is people painting Zimmerman as some Klansman who was chasing little baby innocent Trayvon with gun drawn looking to execute him in cold blood for darkening up his clean streets.

The whole race debate at this point is just silly.

The problems, and IMO, complete failure of the case (or should I say prosecution) are two things:

1, Had Zimmerman stayed in the car, as directly and specifically instructed by the police, there would never have been a physical altercation and Martin would be alive.

2, Had Zimmerman, not brought his gun with him, or even out of the car, Martin would be alive.

Zimmerman, by his own admission, stated that Martin was not engaged in a crime of any sort so despite all the other bullshit everyone has talked about ad nauseum which we'll never know for sure, these two are immovable, cast iron facts, and I cannot fathom how Manslaughter did not apply in this case.

ok. had trayvon not stood in one spot and looked around while it rained, unlike any rational person would, he might still be alive.

had trayvon not confronted zimmerman and gone straight home, he might still be alive.

had trayvon not punched zimmerman, he might still be alive.

Maybe because they tried for Murder 2 and wasted a lot of time with that by slandering Zimmerman's image instead of seeking Manslaughter from the get go.

I'm surprised they didn't have at least a couple black jurors.

If Zimmerman actively sought out and killed a perceived threat that turned out to be nothing more than someone passing through, why is there no manslaughter charge? I can buy that he didn't set out to kill or murder him, but why did he invite this situation into his life? It's dearly irresponsible, and he is obviously a further danger to his community if he is inclined to kill a simple wayfarer.

To presume that either side started the fight is utterly irrelevant, because there is no evidence either way. It might as well be dismissed from opinion. The facts are that one person is dead, the other isn't, but the one who killed him admitted to following him for completely baseless and unfounded reasoning.

Theres plenty of evidence that Martin started the fight though. Zimmerman was the only one who sustained damage consistent with blunt force trauma, indicating that Martin immediately had the upper hand in the altercation, or in other words jumped him. Theres also evidence that there was a struggle for the gun, something that couldn't have happened unless Zimmerman was taken totally by surprise.

As to why Zimmerman had a gun, he probably takes it with him wherever he goes, or at least whenever he walks the street at night. He lives in a high crime neighborhood, and having the means to defend yourself is just common sense. And as it turns out he needed it for exactly the reason he thought he might need it for.

Are you serious? You realise how stupid that is in this context and is a completely false comparison?

No. Please stop trying, you're just digging yourself deeper.

Lets just focus on agreed facts and what has been admitted by Zimmerman:

Martin was walking home. Zimmerman was following Martin. Zimmerman called the police. They told him not to say anything or get out of his car. Zimmerman started talking to Martin and eventually got out of his car. Zimmerman killed martin at close range.

There you have it. Regardless of whatever peoples "opinions" are or what transpired outside of those events, Martin would have got home, Zimmerman would not have pulled gun and Martin would be alive.

Anyone can walk anywhere that is not private property and should do so unhindered. That is actually the law.

Everything that Zimmerman did was either against direct police advice or even technically illegal.
