Labyrinths of reason : paradox, puzzles, and the frailty of knowledge / William Poundstone

More sci-fi from the squirrel who devours books.

The Man Who Never MIssed; Matadora; The Machiavelli Interface; The Albino Knife; and The 97th Step all written by Steve Perry (I don't think it is the lead singer of Journey but one can never be sure).

it is a trilogy plus a sequel and prequel both written after the original 3. They are short books, less than 300 pages each and actually pretty good.

They are a very interesting story revolving around revolution on a massive scale. A friend loaned me the books and I must say I did enjoy the read.
I really need to re-read a lot of the plays I read in Undergrad and Grad school now that I am seeing people continually post books by some of the authors in this thread (Camus, and Machiavelli were covered in my theatre history classes).

Of course I have some other books to finish first lol.

For anyone into business or leadership this book is an excellent read:

"From Good To Great" by Jim Collin.

Its a top-10 for a year or so now. Slow in the middle, but very good solid points, and nice presenation.

Also I recommend
"On Power and Paradise" by Robert Kegan (sp?)

In my opinion it is the authoritative book that actually explains the divergence between Europe and USA by uncovering their philosophies and histories.

Seeing as Diginut and co were so obsessed in working out what the true definition of terrorism is i recomend a book that i've read that bases the first chapter on defining what terrorism is. The problem with an internationally agreed definition is nobody can agree with what constitutes or defines a good government, which is important in order to differentiate the difference between a terrorist or freedom fighter/revolutionist. Anyway it goes off in many different tangents which would be right up diginutz's alley.

Hey I can contribute to this thread! As a philosphy minor at school I got bored reading the "old mens" philosophy books (ie Aristotle, Plato, etc..) I am currently reading into philosophy that we can correlate to these crazy modern times. Check out anything by J. Krishnamurti, he is a very good writer trying to look into the problems of the ego and mankinds endless struggle on this earth. I recommend these

"The Awakening of Intelligence" - J. Krishnamurti
"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintanence" - Robert M. Pirsig

...I am just finishing the second one and it is now one of my favourites! Although it doesn't have much to do specifically with motorcycle repair I do ride bikes and I can see the relationships he is trying to establish between these things.

PS... btw anuneventrade how is the book:
"The Best War Ever" - Michael C.C. Adams

saw this one at the library before was thinking about checking it out. if you can't tell i'm a sucker for war stories/movies lol...
